Timing?

Sometimes a backfire can shear off the key on the flywheel and adjust the timing.

Make sure you use a known to be good plug for testing its always good to verify the plug in another machine.

I say pull the flywheel cover. Mark the fly wheel and the crankshaft with a pencil or whatever you got. Then kick it over a few times and see if your marks are still in alignment.

Not to steal your thread but could some one please lead me to or tell me the proper and right way to set/ adjust the timing. I am shearing pins left and right and it needs to stop imediatly.

Thanks Tom

I took the cover off and marked the flywheel and the nut on the crankshaft kicked it a few times and the marks stayed lined up. I've read on a forum that the stator going bad would make it backfire, is this true?

pull the flywheel off and make sure that it either is or isnt sheered. then if it is sheered when you put it back on use red locktight on the shaft and touqe it down good.

ok, i cleaned the carb, put in new pilot jet and main jet. Now it doesnt backfire, still wont idle. The screw on the TORS unit does nothing when i turn that. Does that mean my TORS unit is bad?

Disconnect the TORS, that should fix the problem.

I'm not up on the tors system to give any advise as far as troubleshooting. With it not idleing you might still have soem debris plugging some passages in the carb. Carbs need to be spotless to operate correctly. I have had to take some carbs apart 4 times to get them cleaned perfect.

If i hold the throttle steady it runs fine then rpms go up and down and then starts to stall unless i move the throttle again.

sounds like a carb issue to me

it runs better with the choke on, but still doesnt idle.

How do the plugs you take out look? Sounds like a carb issue to me.

black.. i put in a smaller jet and still no help. If i put my hand over the carb while running it gets wet with gas.

Your running WAY to rich. Thats your issue. What size jets are you running? Once you get your jets figured out, you can adjust your needle clip for refined tuning. Your plug should come out a nice light golden brown.

OK, but it used to run fine with the 230 main jet.

also take a look at your reeds, make sure they are sealing well.

theyre boyesen reeds and they look good and seal good. Would a bad crank seal cause this? Tried another carb and it does the same thing.

Crank Seal...ummm mabey. Did you check the timing on the stator? also mabey a very dirty air filther?

well, i tried the disconnecting the TORS idea and now it idles. I cut the wires and twisted them together. It seems to idle too high unless i have the choke on though.

i know this may sound weird, but have you checked your cylinder base gasket by any chance? any sign of oil blowing out anywheres around the cylinder base? mine was having a similiar problem before redid mine, and come to find out it was the base gasket that was shot. causing it to not idle at all. eventually got worse and worse, till i did the complete teardown and rebuild.

hahahaha, get rid of the blaster. i love my blaster, and i bet it could take a 350x. has no probs keeping up with an lt250r... course its not quite stock either. blasters can be made to be one heck of a little snot rocket.
