I have a 93 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 6.2 diesel. ( last year of 6.2's) I was curious as to how much horsepower it puts out, and what they were rated at when the first came out. Everyone tells me how gutless they are, gutless or not I can get 30 miles per gallon out of a 3/4 4x4 truck and I don't know of any others that can.

:-P I found my 1985 chevrolet Full size pickup brochure, so I figure a 6.2 is a 6.2 no matter what year it is. Bore and stroke(in): 3.98 x 3.82..... Compression ratio: 21.3 to 1..... SAE net horsepower @ RPM: 130 @ 3600.....SAE net torque(lb-ft) @ RPM: 240 @ 2000.....Engine ordering code:LH6.....this is for under 8500 GVWR. Now for over 8500 GVWR. Same bore and stroke.Same compression ratio.Net horsepower is:135 @ 3600. Net torque is:240 @ 2000. Engine ordering code for over 8500 GVWR is: LL4 . This is for all states. I had one in a Suburban a few year's ago. I got 22 MPG. Did I give you enough information ?? :-D

I've herd that those motors are complete junk. My Grandpa said he had one in Florida, and it would not start in the morning, he always had to spray startign fluid in it, and crank it over for several minutes. He didnt dare shut it off untill it was completly warm. He also said they are a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro to work on, and common things that go wrong with them are hard to do, and general matinence is a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro.

Anyways, I hope your truck works out well for you. I tried to get a hold of a similar vehicle but it had sold. And yes , who cares if its gutless, 25MPG in a 3/4 ton 4X4 truck is awesome.

Who cares about 3-4 mpg when your making near 370hp and over 500ft lbs of torque? :D

The latest 6.2's made about 165 horse, just for your info. The 6.2 and 6.5 Gm engines were nothing remarkable, but fairly reliable and fuel efficient. The new duramax is 100 times better, though..To the point where its arguable whether the ford PSD is still better.

Yea, the 6.2's get exellent fuel mileage, No new diesel can touch the fuel mileage of the 6.2's. Ford came out with the new Power Stroke 6.0 liters that are pumping out 550 ft lbs of Torque and 350 hp and it is a down size from the 7.3 liter PS, because They wanted them to get better fuel mileage.
Hell I have a 99 Ford F-350 Super Duty 7.3 Power Stroke 4x4, crew cab, long bed and it gets 14-15 mpg in town and 17 mpg on highway, so you can see the difference in your truck and the new ones.
