i just bought 4 american racing 15 by 10 baja rims for on my truck for 50bux. the clear coat is starting to peel. could i just sand it off or sandblast them? im painting them black too. thanks

yes, you need to get all the clear coat off before you pain. I would soda blast them before I sand blast.

diffently go that rought soda wont pit the surface like the sand will, but make sure that you wash them with soap and water real good as the soda leaves an unseen residue that will prevent the new paint from sticking, then spray the wheels with epoxy primer like a wet on wet sealer then paint with any good automotive grade paint or just take them to get powder coated.

I asked around about the same thing for my rims on my t-bird, anyhoo I was told by multiple people the aircraft stripper will take it off. I think thats what it is. Its like $5 for a pint at Lowe's and Home Depot.

I would vote for powder coating the rims instead of paint. last longer, and look better imo.

you need to get a special clear coat for bare metel or polished metel to have any lasting effects
