I just got a call from Speedbump. He was gonna swap air filters with me before he sold one of his 350Xs. I go to my trike, pull the airbox lid and the filter clamp is intact but the foam and metal inner part are laying in the bottom of my airbox. Completely disintegrated.

I would have had a fresh bore on my engine by time I left TF. How bad would that have sucked???

Ordered a new UNI off ebay. Should be here in time.

hAHAH I can relate. I found mice nests with the mice still in my kdx dirtbike more than on one occasion. One time found a whole fresh litter of young mice in there and the mother too LOL. Tossed them right out of the airbox right at the feet of my cat hah serve the little buggers right!

I use K&N for prefilters, they flow more air and dirt.

Dont take my word for it do the test. My 35 years of observing others changing filters is they never notice small details I seem to notice, I hope this info will help other see what they are missing and NOT start a pissing match on filters, if you want to start one its easy to end just go look at what desert racers are using on 800k trucks and 300k buggies..

Also spray a little oil into your rubber boot after the filter, after the filter is good and dirty remove it and use a white towel to wipe the oil see if its dirty or not.

The stuff the K&N filters pass is the stuff I am trying to stop, its the stuff that wears out my engines internals.

Enjoy.

My prefilter setup.

Here is something I like about the K&N, easy to clean, if your not in a hurry when cleaning the K&N filters you can wrap a paper towel around the filter and let them set a few days this will allow most of the filter oil to wick out into the
paper towels so you dont have to use as much cleaner to clean them $$$ I also found out that using a scoop per gallon of OXI clean works as good or better than the K&N cleaner but cost about 1000x less, just put the mixture in a pale I use a 5 gallon bucket and let them soak over night...

Pre-oil removal trick

Just got my new UNI filter.

I thought they came pre-oiled.

Luckily I had a bottle of Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil in a box. Got it oiled up, and installed. Ready to go.
