Harley 79. Here is my other project. I have been working on this for a year and a half. My trike addiction put a halt to this project last September. I recently got back to it. Hope to finish it by September of this year. This sportster has kick and sissy start. You think a 350 or 500 is fun to start, cant wait to try this one. I have sandblasted, primed painted, polished, and replaced just about everything. Gonna hook up with sykolincoln to do some old school flames on the tank.

Thanks everyone!!! I was not sure if this crowd would dig American iron. Not much in the way of engine mods. She was a 1000cc. I had the motor bored .20 over with new pistons and all new parts where needed. I also got an electronic ignition as it had points. Not much else. I will keep updating as I finish up.

Having A/C is so nice right now. Add some French doors and I could get my trikes in the Florida room.

Do you re-wire with a harness or do you make one from scratch. I am at that stage right now.

I have added some pics of the process. I know everyone loves pics!!! :pics:

She sure was pretty when I started.

looks great! plenty of hours there :beer

I bought the complete harness kit from V-Twin. It costs about 200 bucks and is well worth it. Most of the connectors are wired and there are a few different sections ( main, rear lights, turn, ign etc). I'm using some of the original and some of the new. Once I'm done I'll have some extra wire and connectors. Use the factory wiring diagram from the service manual also. If you're going to keep the bike then you should have the factory manual and the extra wire will come in handy depending on how huch of the original is left. You could build one from scratch but it always leads to headaches later IMO. Good luck :w00t:

My buddy who has an 83 FXR insists I could build one. I figured buying the harness would be so much better, as you stated the headache factor. I have the original as well which will help as a guide, and be some extra. I have the factory manual and the parts manual, both necessities. Thanks!

Beautiful bike, Below is a pic of my 68, too bad it wont freakin run this year(no spark). I have replaced plugs, wires, cap, points, coil and still freakin nothing. Maybe one day I will get to take her out this year for a ride.

Nice scoot Phreakboy! good luck getting her to fire. New condensor? Doesn't look like it has an on-off switch on the bars, is there a kill switch? Also those points fired rigs sometimes need 12v to fire, is the battery good? Did you use a 5ohm coil?

Yep condensor was replaced also, There is a kill switch mounted on the tank, its just a ground kill and I completly eliminated that from the equation and still nothing. I dont have a battery, this is an xlch Kick only bike.

Looking good man. Do you powder coat any of it or is it all paint? I just stared PCing a while ago. I love it. I will have to get some pics up some time.

Yep I got all the crap to PC. I want to get out of doing floors. 12 years is enough of that. I am hoping to only do only one carpet job a week and then spend rest of the time PCing for people. I am out of town right now. I will post pics when I get back.

Sweet 70!!! Love the seat that is 1970 all day long. Drum brakes have to be fun.

Here are some pics of the 79 as of yesterday. After the photos I put the headlight in and started the wiring. Need rear brakes and some minor stuff and then fire her up!!!
