readjust your valves

like the gap from the rockers, would that make a difference?its a really loud ting

Your valves aren't adjusted right, or you're experiencing detonation (for some reason).

sorry im slow, haha,so is the adjustment screw on the rockers too far in and the valves are hitting the piston, should i just back them up all the way and see if it still does it?,thanks guys

Uhhh if your valves were hitting your piston, they would have been ruined instantly. Your valves have an improper amount of clearance between the cam and lifter, or the lifter and valve. Get a manual or have someone find the specs for you, and then measure your clearance with a set of leaf gauges (also known as feeler gauges).

ill get some specs posted asap. my brothers did the same thing. dam yammi

well,i found these specs,intake,.05-.09mm,exhuast,.11-.15,and i set them w/ the feeler guages the best i could, but they were bearly visible,so idk if there right, could even being a fraction off cause this noise?

I don't think your valves would be causing a TING sound, especially a loud one. My Big Bear has some slightly larger than spec clearances, and it ticks a little bit at idle. I think a "TING", as if someone is tapping your engine with a hammer or something, is probably detonation/preignition.

isnt that realy rare?should i just clean my carb and see what happens?

Well, if you've got the proper clearances in the proper areas, and the timing is on like you say it is, I am totally stumped.

lol,me too,i can usually figure this stuff out,im not pro,but i know a thing er 2,thats why i came here, cuz everyone is very helpful, ill recheck my adjusments and ponder a little more and let you guys know, but if anyone has anymore thoughts, let me know, thanks guys

could be the timing chain is lightly tapping inside. make sure its tight. also could be a light piston slap. i learned from a old timmer if you take a 2x4 chunk of wood hold one end to you ear and the other to each valve cover and hear a bad tap then the side that taps needs adjusting. i also found this trick works for the timing chain. hold it up to the top timing chain cover and listen for a tap or tin or w/e you are hearing. it works better than you would think. i laughed when the old guy told me but im not laughing now. it saved me from doing allot of work that didnt need to be done.

good luck

Timing chain slap? Don't those machines have auto-tensioning cam chains tho?

yea but the slides can wear out so bad the chain can slap. my brothers did it and when he was riding down rt 240 it skipped time lol. now we are putting in a new chain and slides.

lol,ok guys, the feeler guages i had were deff illegible cuz i couldnt read em,i bought new ones and the ticks gone down, but not away, but alot better, thanks a bunch everyone

Your motor will always tick. The rockers develop flat spots, common on these machines..nothing to worry bout.

ok,thats fixed, one other problem, she runs great when cold, but as soon as she heats up it stalls out and wont go full throttle and leaks oil outta the head, think all it needs is a new top end gasket?

urban_chevy

any ideas?

replace the gasket. it also sounds like the valves are still set abit to loose. try adjusting them a 1/4 turn tighter.
adjust the idle and mixture screws on the carb after the engine is warm.

ok,but i have the shaft driven,so i think the mixture screw is in he carb,so i got to take it all apart to mix it?thats dumb

I'm pretty sure your air screw is located outside the carb. Look at a parts fiche for the appropriate year Moto4 and look to see which screw is the Air Mixture screw.
