I have a 2000 ds650 with fmf slip on rev box, K&N And thats about it. It's in really amazing condition with new tires all around and new plastic and skull decals all around. No rust well taken care of and i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get some cams and a piston for it but not from ron woods. Or if anyone has anything lying around such as a higher compression piston or some racing cams or a P+P head. Let me know what ya got.

Rumor is that a late model Honda trx450r carb. is a nice upgrade for the ds.

Really? The bore isn't too small for 650cc's of displacement?

Actually i was also considering a trade for a yfz450 or 450r with a lil bit of money to go with it. I want to get into the MX side of racing cause a new track just came up down my road and i tried my ds and it got killed by the 450's it's just a little to heavy. Fun though a 500lb machine flying through the air handled pretty well. wicked fast trail machine though. Love it but i just wanted to try something different.

Yea I think if you want, a YFZ450 is a nice choice! The DS650's usually are known to be dunner's because of the size but the power!

The trx and ds carbs are similar mm. But the trx Keihin FCR is a much better carb over the ds cv setup.

Good choice pal... It's not that badly priced compared to the others too.. I tends to rank 2nd to the LTR which is a bit more expensive

Well what should i look for? I know the 2004-2005 had oil circulating problems and would blow the engine and such. But I can only afford an 04 or 05 so how common is this problem or is it a problem do to owners beating on them a lot. I also want to put a pipe and do the cam mod on my yfz when and if i get it. Would the yfz be faster then my ds650 now with those mods?

Why do you not want to deal with Ron woods? They have always been good to me when it comes to getting DS stuff.

Yfz's don't require a cam change like a trx does. You simply advance the intake, and depanding on the person, the same can be done on the exhaust. The cam profiles are the same as the wr450. Yzf profiles are too aggressive and pipey for the quad. Thats why you dont see anyone use them. They produes way more peak power than the yfz cams, but torque production is way down. And for heavy quads, torque is what gets them rolling and gives the instant power people like.Yfz's also don't require rev boxes, as other brands do. Take off air box lid, use quality exhaust, and mechanically, a gytr hi-comp piston can be installed. It will make good power then. Just be aware of 04-05 crank and rod issues. Early 04's have swingarm breakage problems, but most were fixed under warranty. The problem was corrected quickly. There are many things that can go wrong with any used machine, just take that into account before selling one that you know is solid. Modern 4strokes can really cost HUGE money when a faillure occurs.

well i got the 04 yfz450 a few days ago and i spent 1 hour checking and riding it everything was in great condition so i purchased it. Original owner and no noises. just a smooth clean machine. So far i purchase an alba full exhaust with jet kit and the K&n. Itend to take it easy on my machines and keep good matinence on them so i think i'll be ok.
