Would JB Weld work to plug a small hole in a part before it goes to powdercoat? If not, what could I use as filler that will work?

It's a very small hole. I could actually fix it after the powdercoat and it wouldn't really be noticable. I'd rather fix it first though as long as it won't cost much.

I would weld it closed. small tacks to fill the void and the grind smooth... or you might try lead, but I am not sure if you can powder coat onto lead.

I don't have a welder and the nearest person I know that does is clear across town.

I'm pretty sure you could braze it and the powdercoat would stick, I would be worried about the lead distorting in the heat.

Ask the powdercoater if they can do it, most I know have welders or know people at fabricating shops who could get it done.

If its any kind of good powdercoater they will use whats called labmetal. Thats what i use and i do all my own powdercoating. JB weld will work believe it or not. Small holes only. When he lays on the powder the coverage should be great enough to cover it. You should be fine. But the good guys use LABMETAL. See eastwood.com

Yes it will work fine on a small spot. A lot of people use it for small things. There are a few other fillers out there, but JB will work for you.

Jb on something that they will cook at around 400 deg and it still sticks with no ill effects to it? I must be incredulous here.
