got all the parts painted and some on the truck, I spent about an hr tonight and lowered the back, im happy with the amount it went down, no pinion alignment probem or anything, I'll remove the bumpstops for more travel (about 3 in more) and add a set of 2700 firestone bags to the rear for helpers, becouse I plan on still towing a trailer. here is a few more pics! still waiting on my custom paint to arrrive:naughty: so in the mean time I got some atc70 plastic to finish!;) and 2 gas tanks to do up!:D

Hey, what's wrong with using your paint booth?

SYKO
08-05-2007, 11:28 PM
yea try me! had a very trying day today, we were just done with the roof on the last coat of clear, when an electrical substation went up in flames, so we lost power, so the paint got a good 1 hr flash time, wich cuased a few probs, but we got them ironed out, the booth was like a furnace, so I really didnt spend the time I owuld have liked to on the flames, I may go back later this year when its cooler and put some more emphasis on detail in them, right now there still cool and have a wicked "pop" when the light hits them. now I got to put it back together.

edit: yea its not my booth I needed as much light and airflow, plus I was using a high production clear that cost around 500 for the whole kit, I needed a bake off booth to do this job correctly, and my buddy dereck put on the last coat, hes the only other painter that I would let paint my stuff, me and him have done a bunch of jobs together.

LonesomeTriZ

SYKO

nite shades, or clear black? I think I might pick up a can

no I remove the lights sand them and mix up clear with unreduced black basecoat and spray a few coats, its not as easy as it sounds, you cant run it or put to much. Ive done so many sets now its super easy for me to do, plus when the lights are on or the brakes go on the light shows more than the covers, plus in the day when there are no lights there almost invisable!

oldsking86
Are those like the projectors you can get off ebay? I was thinking some of those for my GMC when I convert the front

yea they are, be carefull about the lights for your truck though, Ive put many sets of lights in gm trucks and have yet found a set besides factory that remotely fit decent, plus with such a small area as the gm lights I would sugest just regular clear lights, a freind of mine has them and they are stupid brite!!

well its time for an update...

didnt plan on doing anything else to my ol' truck except a few minor things here and there

well....... so I thought..... a few weeks ago while my fiance' was borrowing my truck she decided that she didnt like the front end any more and mushed it into a camry... good thing she wasnt hurt much just minor scrapes and bruis's from teh air bag deplying... I wasnt mad at her since acidents DO happen... but now I have to fix my truck.. bad thing is the custom colors in the flames are near unmatchable.

here is the carnage

are you kidding me??? Im the Insurance man!! I got all the navigator parts cheaper then even cost for aftermarket parts to go back original!!

the problem was that my truck was a lariat, and a unpainted grill cost some serious change! about 150 more then a chrome one... I just did some checking around and located these parts. The funny thing is Im getting the black housing headlights for only $117 shipped a pair!! my aftermarket keystone cost for one headlight is over 150! the headlights in my truck cost me $225! it will be together by the time you get down, but over all the truck wont be finished... I got to go through the whole thing again.... + I got a crazy idea that I just HAVE to do!:naughty:

also these are my new wheels, I plan on changing out the ugly dome cap for a recessed 2 bar spinner

SYKO
09-18-2008, 05:42 PM
:0 DOH!! well I slapped the parts on my truck so they wouldnt be hanging out getting messed up...

My original plans was to modifie the front fenders to mimic the shape of the lincoln fenders... little did I know they where WAY OFF!!!.... oh well.... ordered me some LKQ fenders and will slap them on next week later hopefully... also still havnt ordered my lights yet... waiting on that allmighty paycheck to come in the mail.... :cheesy:

any way like I said here it is slapped together...

all the parts I got were NASTY! they had like 3 candy paint jobs on them.... and not pretty ones either... so I spent about 5 hours with a razor blade stripping paint off the bumper and hood... thankfully it came off easily... unfortunatly the bumper wasnt in the best of shape after being sanded.... So I killed it with some plastic primer and shot single stage all over the parts... everything has to be resanded anyway later when I go back over the whole truck so its no biggie... ;)

well here it is... so far.....

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/shop%20pics%20and%20projects/come%20original/100_9999.jpg

here is the difference in fenders... my 2 options put the complete navigator fender on or just splice the front of the navi fender onto the rear of my 150 fender... I guess I will make my decision when I get the fenders in...

Painting chrome? Hmmm, I have my doubts about that one. I know you can rough up the surface, but on spokes, I think it would be pretty tough to get all of them.

SYKO
09-19-2008, 10:58 AM
yea I have to remove the bed again... this time I will be putting a under floor notch in and adding the rear air bags... since I still use the truck for truck things I dont plan on laying it down to the frame, if I did all that then it would be usless... and this truck gets used alot! keeping the front unbagged it rides great and handles well so after this repaint and minor rear suspension mods im done (for a while again I hope! LOL) the only other thing is im adding some lincoln seats to the interior.

also I laid out some stripes kinda near what im thinking about doing, Im known around here for having crazy paint jobs, but I plan on going clean on this truck, with only thin silver pinstripes and later some airbrushing as soon as my homie from cali comes back... watcha think?

whats wrong with mexican? Jenneh seems to like mexican!

I got the left navigator fender in last night, so I proceded to see what all the differences between the two fenders are... first off the navigator fender flare is HUGE compared to the f-150 flare, also I cannot use the Navi flare as it also has a coresponding partt that goes into the doors+ it wouldnt mach the rear bed flare either.

Obviously I will have to weld up a bunch of holes on these fenders to make them work and drill new ones for the f-150 flares to go back onto it.. Also the flare itself I had to moddify by trimming some ecxess plastic fromt he back sides and lower rear of it.

Still waiting on a right fender... should would be nice to have it so I can finish this beast up!

negative on the fender flares, I will post pics after while the difference...

the bumper is basicaly just chillin right now

nothing is adjusted tight yet

got more things to do yet

when the bumper is set right the f-150 flare looks right on the fender

if it was another color then black it might be more effected by the look

also use of the flare is needed as the bumper sticks out to meet a flare anyway, if you didnt have a flare it would look dookiesh

SYKO

WELL I hit a rough patch in my life and I had to park my truck (even tried to sell it unfinished) with no luck and life slowly turning back around I rolled it out of the weeds last week.

plans are to bag the rear (more or less for load leveling) but also let it sit lower and drag bumper if I wanted, waiting on C-notch and air compressor got firestone 2900's for the rear, one day I may bag the front.

well I still need to get a right navi fender yet, so hopefully I can find one soon (like this week)

but I could still paint on some of the truck so this weekend I preped the bed, tailgate, mirrors, rear bumper, and rear bed flairs for paint
this is what I got done so far, I will post a together pic later today thats in the sunlight

NO shaved handles I drive this truck all the time and for alot of stuff, it still hauls around parts and pulls my trailers, shaved handles arnt for daily rags. I have other vehicles with shaved stuff and there mostly for show only.

I hear that. My 87 5.0 GT has everything shaved, door handles, keyholes - it's a PITA sometimes.

btw - a done truck gets much more respect from me that a done car. I think trucks, done right, can't be beat. I've been at my Dakota 5.9 360 R/T now a couple years and it's coming along. No quite as custom as, say yours, but lil 'trick' touches here and there to make it stand out from the crowd.

Good luck with this build Syko.

I used to own/operate my own shop I sold it in 04 now I just do it on the side still using my old shop name.

cobb county it way north of me

Ive been using Martin Senour paint since 1995 Ive learned all the ins and outs of it, the clear is a new high solids 5020 it acts strange its kinda peely at first but after a few days levels out.

the paint is black base with special effects over it

I liked ppg for their bases but never been impressed much with their clear, the only thing I wish MS would do is stay put with their clears Ive changed clears at least 20 times in the last 15 years.

the best clear was maximum performance clear witch they reformulated last year and now its nearly $700 a kit..... argggg.

PPG isnt much better with their switch of clears, but most of it is because of the goverment.Use PPG 2020 for years, then they stoped making it switch to their 4000 clear but didnt work well in my booth. setup time was to quick. now im using 2002 clear, which i think is the best for my conditions. goes on the same way as the clear your using , little peely then flatens out overnight
that cost me @ $500.00 a gallon, they also have a preaty good "cheep Clear"
in their Shop line . sprays nice and flat for @ $80.00 a gallon you cant bet it for jobs you dont want to spend much on.iv used it on a bunch of jobs and the gloss hold out it preaty good.
I havent tried Martin senour yet. but i know i guy that did and i wasnt impressed with how their clear laid, but im not sure what he was using # wise.

that swap is so common its not as eye apealing as the lincoln swap, wich over the years Ive only seen a handfull of those at shows and non on the road, where as the caddy swap there is like 10 in a 50 mile radius of me and im the only one with a lincoln swap.

im happy with the way it turned out, I know it will be better once I get the pinstriping done to it and reclear it to smooth it all out, plus get my wheels on it as well... it was nice though driving this thing again after so long!

once again the joys of being a insurance adjuster pay off!!

tuesday while inspecting a totaled out explorere a rollover lincoln navigator caught my eye :cheesy:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/shop%20pics%20and%20projects/come%20original/mytruck1016.jpg

so after further inspecting it I talked to the wrecker service owner, and baught it......for $100 :0

worth a 100? kinda.... it does have the baddass intech 32 valve cobra motor in it and all wheel drive.... but I wasnt interested in that!

what I was interested in was the INTERIOR :nicoderm:

so finaly today I managed to take most of what I wanted out of it I still have to go back and bogart the stearing wheel

the badd ass part is.... the F'n seats have AC in them!!! and its a stand alone unit built into the underside with a evaporator and condensor!!! my F'n ass is going to be cool as hell!!!! :420:

heres the score (also note navigator interior door panels WILL NOT FIT  )

AC seats  I can only imagine what thats worth, just a hair more than 100$ huh??

Did you take out that motor anyhow?

SYKO
04-26-2009, 10:03 AM
yea on my parts finder program each seat lists over 1000 a peice! naw I let the motorgo with the truck as scrap, im pretty sure is sufferd some damage as all the other driveline parts were junk.

SYKO

well had nothing better to do today since im sick and all so I decided to put in the lincoln seats

well the passenger was no problem I got all the functions to work except the heat and air, that will come later

but the driver was a big problem I tried to add power to it and find the correct pwoer wires, but I couldnt so.... I ripped out the motor controls from my stock ford drivers seat and redrilled it and managed to make it work on the lincoln seat. Now I need to trace back the wires that controle the lumbar and stuff and it will all be working!

then I slapped them in the truck and hooked up power and they work great! then I jsut stuck the center console in in the mean time unbolted untill I gut the truck to color match everything later.

SYKO
05-19-2009, 05:18 PM
yea I sleep in fact lately alot ive been majorly sick so much in fact that im barely able to work.... so I brought some of my work home with me from my shop to finish some things up since i need to say home a bit right now...

when im feeling great I can do many and to many things at one time

also have to add a bit of an update to this as well....

well while doing my normal insurance appraisals...... im at a inspection and out of the corner of my eye I spy a tonue cover leaning up against the fence.... so I ask the owner about it... he goes "ya want it?" I go I guess what does it fit? he goes " your truck!" im like SCORE!

so I put on a free tonue cover yesturday! :0 :cheesy:

gotta paint it up now.... but I think I know a decent painter ;)

well I had to borrow a few bucks to fix my truck, but today I picked up a new radiator.... cheaper then most places would sell a broken used one for... still need a condensor.. wich i will get in a few days from a freind for free.

put that in everything worked ok so I was like lets make this junky broken grill work on here, its not perfect has a few well hidden zip ties holding the grill and header panel together, but it will work in the mean time.

first the carpet, while not a perfect fit alittle trimming here and there and it sure beats buying new carpet!

I also still have the lincoln stearing wheel as well to go in yet.

the one thing I can continue always doing is paint and body, thanks to a extrememly long standind relationship with my paint shop man I get paint for my own vehicles for nothing and some extra materials, while I still have to spend money on parts at least I get to do something in the mean time.

well after 185k my originaly rear end started screaming clanking and howling... got it out before catastrphic failure comenced lol!! using my super hustler insurance appraisor abilities I snaged me a nearly unused 9.75 rear for my truck! with disc brakes!!

the junk

heres is the new rear end, 9.75, disc brakes and a spool , makes driving fun at times since its locked all the time lol, had to move it back on the leaf springs 1 3/4 to hook up the driveshaft but Ill fix all that later when I finaly bag it and 4 link it. ;)

the flash makes it worse my truck is actually very clean underneath, down south the vehicles get only a light coating of paint on the frame it wears off within a year or two of normal driving, when I finaly get the money to get aroudn to al the suspension work I plan to paint the frame good with some industrail paint, ive done it on some other frames and looks great.

lay frame on 24's
fully functional bed
2 link rear with wishbone
2900 series bags on all four corners
2 viar 480 compressors
1 8 gall tank
8 smc 3/8 valves
1/2 dot line
will be able to lay frame and have just at 12 inches of lift
