This will be arriving the end of next week. Been having the itch for a "new" quad lately but decided against a 450 because of: #1, the money involved or a payment I don't need. #2: Lack of technical knowledge or spare parts for any of the new 4 strokes and #3: I'm pretty convinced the Laegers narrow framed T-pin setup will handle better then ANY of the new 450s even if you did dump a bunch of money in them. The price on it seemed pretty reasonable to me, I'll have less then 4k in it even after delivery. The market for the 250Rs really has dropped over the past few years, I think everyone knows that this was a $15,000 dollar machine back in 99-2000. The motor seems to be pretty stock, but that just means it hasn't been messed with ;) I'll probably leave it stock cylindered and stuff for a long time anyways, I'm more interested in its handling and jumping capabilities at this point then its straight line go. I gotta 500R on alky for that. Its not a showbike, but it'll be a great rider.

Don't worry, I'm not getting out of trikes. I'm still gonna be flat track racing and stuff, this is just something to play on the MX track with until I can build a trike to take its place :naughty:

Nothing bad to say, I personally love the fourtrax R. wish I had known you were looking for a quad though, I just practically gave away a Tecate 4. really nice one that ran great.....and I mean cheap... oh well, I do know where a 88 R is, but it would be a long time before I can afford any new toys. Wish you luck with it and keep us posted on your track...:beer

I wondered if you would get a quad to go with your new track. I am guessing you are going to race it?

At it's time that think was defiantly worth more then what your paying haha Awesome grab billy, i'm sure you'll get it running strong in no time

I might race it some, probably not much though. All the "real" nationals level racing is done with production classes and stuff now where you cant run the 250R. Thats why the 450s are so popular even though the aftermarket Rs like this one are actually still better. The TRX250R is the only quad I've ever felt really comfortable on. Their so light weight, low slung, and they just slide/drift through the corners so nice, I dunno. I've always wanted a really nice one like this with all the aftermarket goodies, finally getting it. I'll put it to good use :)

I've heard that many people do hybrids with this frame because the 250r has the BEST geometry of a frame. So you put the new 450 motor in a 250r frame and you have a winning combination by most competitors standards. I personally liked the feel of it too, very nicely built

YIKES - there is one in my agarage curently too. Thank God it's not mine - just doing some repair work!

LOL

Nice score Billy - My only "real" quad experience is on a 250R and they are pretty fun to ride. Still - they feel a bit awkward after triking for so many years. Show us some sweet action pics once you get the feel for it.

Good score Billy....You'll really like the R. You're right about the T-pin setup and the narrow a-arm mount points. My Kaw uses that very narrow front too. Claimed to be the best design. I think they still sell that a-arm setup. Pricey for sure.

it's about $3000 for that whole front end with the shocks they handles the best with the narrow frame. i have a PORTER RACE PRODUCTS frame on my 250r. it's his original prototype one i got for $600. so io have frame number 00001:lol: it's a stock width frame though.

it's nice not having to worry about braking the frame when ride ir welding up cracks every other ride like i had to. that frame will outlast you.

. you can put e ragular front end on a Leager narrow frame just it wont be as wide. if you need to get +4 a arms for it to be 50" wide with the 4/1 offset wheels.

by the way keep the reed spacer on there they help smooth out the power delivery and you dont get as tired when your racing. less arm pump.

i just noticed another thing it has cr500 linkage setup on the back.

how much did this trx250r set you back? theres about $2500 in the rear shock/ linkage and swingarm.

we have that on me and my brother Swigins 350rx. 12" of travel is sweet.

I've got less then $4k in it with the shipping to get it down here from New Jersey. A little bit on the expensive side for a 250R, but as much stuff as this thing has on it, seems like a pretty decent deal. I rode it for about an hour tonight before it got dark, the front steering is HELLA responsive, if I turn the bars a half inch I dart over 3ft. I already been doing some climbing back where we've been getting dirt for the track, feels good :D Lots of getting use to it, but Its an awesome ride I can tell already. Motor seems to run really well, but pretty peaky feeling. Not much low end, might need an ESR trx5 pipe. I've got to do some control adjustments to get things a bit more comfortable for me. Need to replace one of the heim joints for the tie rod (has some slack in it, actually have a brand new one in a bag that came with it) Maybe a little bit of clutch adjustment or work (seems awfully grabby) I'll put some more time in on it tomorrow :D

All I can find are the regular old AC nerf nets, and not the pro peg style. I've got some regular AC nerfs but the netting is different. Maybe I'll rig it up for the time being.

$4000 was a steel for that trx250r you raped the guy with his pants on. the only thing honda on it is the engine and the brake parts. everything esle is aftermatket.

the LRD pipes and Paul Turner pipes are the best for the trx's. ESR pipes are not that good.

look on the label on the pipe it looks like a 88-89 midrange/mx pipe. i have the same one on my 86 PRP 250r
the LRD's give a real explosive power band hit compared to the paul turners. back in the trx250r days the paul turner mid range pipe is what all the big name pro's used since it did not tire you out as much and performed just as good.

08-03-2007, 11:50 PM
Yeah man its got a TON of stuff on it. Its got a few things I need to fix before I start really ripping on it but so far I'm extremely happy with it.

thats a nice rig billy.i contenplated buying a 250r aswell, but doing a crf,or yzf hybrid.the 2 stroke motor is just insufficent in todays mx.they tire you out way faster, you must ride them perfect, and they just don't hook up aswell out of the corners.

they are by far the best looking, and best handling quads though.i just cream over a fully built r,and yours is beautiful!

derrick and i are puttting together some things for him right now.hopefully it works out.a cannondale chassis, with long travel elkas,a yzf 426 motor, and a 250r plastic conversion.should be wicked.

anyway, congrats on the new ride man.she looks sexy, and i'm sure gonna love it!

WOW. Nice bike for sure. How long have you been talking about getting a sport quad? At least 2 years that I know of. Glad you finally found one- and a nice one at that. I know you hate riding a "me too" bike . Always gotta be different, huh Billy?:p :p :p

You get that clutch set the way you want it yet?

Billy Golightly
08-04-2007, 07:12 PM
I know what you mean Brandon...the 4 strokes are definitely easier to ride, but I'm not convinced yet (hahaha) that you can't still be faster on a 2 stroke once your dialed in with it as a rider. I think it was Mike Walsh that said a year or two ago (even after all the 450s were out) that he still thought the 250R was the ultimate engine because of its power, weight, and size. Every new 450 has something that bothers the hell out of me. And that is the height of the seat and gas tank. The engines are so big and tall, I just cannot get accustomed to that after having been on Rs.

Thanks Greg, I guess it has been that long since I've been talking about getting another sport quad hasn't it? Finally had one fall in my lap, had the $$$ to buy it at the same time. Haven't worked on the clutch and stuff yet, I've been doing some work on the flat tracker for a race coming up this coming weekend, trying to get everythign squared away on it first and then I'll pickup the loose ends on the TRX.

Where you getting your info on pipes? Dyno runs have proven ESR pipes outperform the LRD and PT. I've had them all and the ESR is one of the best out there now and still easy to get. PT is a nice pipe and real close to the ESR. The only thing nice about the LRD is their silencer.

Billy, very nice R, thats a great price for a great ride.
