It really depends on who is doing it, quality of their work, what kind of paint, and most of all what scheme they are laying out. I charged this guy around 120 bucks for just the flame job, which I thought was pretty cheap (no materials). You can spend anywhere from $300 to $3000+ when having a bike painted.

Thanks fellas... What kind of brush did you pick up smoke? Im an Iwata fan myself, but there are a ton of good ones out there. One of my best investments aside from my HP-CS was buying a good compressor...

Nice job on this. Do you clear your stuff or send it off. To much stuff to worrry about doing it my self. I did it once, but I don't think I'll do it again.
Little stuff sure ,but something big I'll leave it to a pro.
That's a nice brush. I have a hc-bcs and a Iwat revalution tr-1 kinda like the
richpens with the pistol grip.
You have a shop? Or out of the garage shop going?

I just run out of my garage for the time being. I am going to be painting a LOT more this winter. Hopefully Ill have a couple bikes coming in and maybe a pulling tractor or two, who knows lol.
I actually send my clear off, Ive got a guy who does it for me not even a mile down the road, and for what he charges me, its not worth me getting my own clear setup.
Orrville isnt too far from me, maybe well have to paint sometime.

Yep only like 46 miles. How far are you from the hospital? I painted the new addition to the hospital across the street a few months ago.

I just bought a Paasche VL, haven't a chance to try it yet though. It's a heck of an upgrade over the $5 harbor freight one I've been using. Here's a few things I've done, I really wish I had more time to practice and get better.

Oh and get the fire kit from house of Kolor. It has all the colors that Mike Lavalle uses, You can find them on ebay

Hey Toocheap, you might try smaller circles for stencils and bring your stencil off your work just a little higher, You want the rough scetch of the circles and stencils but not a tight no overspray look kind of a mix of the 2

Cool fire. Man 5 gals! that's a lot of mils. Sure looks good.
For the fire kits check out www.bearair.com they have the cheapest prices.
I've been buying from them for years and the service is outstanding.
Lot's of cool stuff.

Lots of good advice here... To sum it up, buy what you can from bearair.com, HOK paint when you can afford it, and stick with mike lavalle on the fire (probably the best, or atleast one of the best). I myself DO NOT LIKE tru-fire or any type of sheilded realistic fire. That doesnt mean the customers dont though, so keep at it smoke, your work is looking good.
If you guys need any references or what not, let me know - Ive saved who knows how many sites and how to's from some of the greatest fire jobs I have come across, its a "fad" that I dont think will leave for a long long time...

oh yeah, airbrush.com or kustomkulturelounge.com. Lot of BS goes on at airbrush.com so Ive been coming over to kustom for quite some time. It really irks me that bearair (corporate side of airbrush.com) doesnt carry iwata either............
oh well, keep up the good work fellas!

Thanks, I also like the traditional flames, that's what I started doing. Then I saw mike lavalle's work, so I tried to imitate his fire, but I ended up drifting into my own style.
