You guys should try Sabayon. It is a Distribution of Linux that has Beryl, AIGLX, and XGL built in. It is a LiveCD so after you download it you can boot from the disk, it will even work without a hard drive, so you won't have to worry about messing up your Windows OS. Google Sabayon to get it. Comes with Mozilla and all that crap too.

Linux is sweet. No viruses at all, I've used ubuntu and auditor live cd's. I have xandros 3 installed on my other pc. KDE is super easy to use and best of all it's free.

Yeah I have seen that too hehe. Problem, is its just like Apple and Vista with the 3d imaging. I have to admit I do like Linux much better than Microsoft crap.

Here is a pic of my Vista goofy windows on my laptop (soon to be Linux hehe).

Create a dual boot and load it on the second partition.:)

You mean like I could load it say on one of my 1gb or 2gb flash drives and load it like that? It doesn't need to be set up on my computer at all?

Well I was meaning put Linux on a partition of your harddrive and then load it on that. So you can keep your existing set up but then boot it up to linux to play.

Most Linux distrOS have a "live cd" option. So you don't have to re-partition your HD to try it. Just put the disc in and it boots from the cd. You can save pics and vids to a flash drive. I'm not an expert at linux, but I know what I like. KDE desktop is simple to use - much like windows.

Sabayon does have a "LiveCD" for their distro.

Check out their website and look for a livecd. You burn the image to disc, boot to the cd and see if you like it before carving up your hard drive and installing. I don't think the liveCD has Beryl (The funky window manager eye candy stuff), but the LiveDVD does.

Mental disability, huh....

Rhuel, do you know how to get Fedora Core to recognize my USB wireless internet adapter? Probably not but worth a shot. Also PM me if you have any PCI wireless internet cards for sale.

Oldsking, if you go to sabayonlinux.org you can download a LiveCD, burn the image to the disk, put it in the CD drive and restart your computer and it will boot right to it, when your done, restart and take the disk out.

You anyone that was reading about booting from live cd and wanted to check it out, remember to access your bios and set your boot order so that the CDrom drive is first. Or else it'll just boot up normally.

Not sure Mike on the wireless USB. Check the core forums and see what they are saying.

in a shell, type dmesg and grep -i for usb then plug in the adapter, run dmesg again and see if it shows up. Also check what modules are loaded with lsmod and pipe that to less. Look for usb and wireless somewhere in there. I know wireless support was lame with some intel cards and I had to use ndiswrapper and the windows driver. I've never fooled with USB wireless devices. I'd imagine someone has fooled with it.

Core 5,6,7?

And no your screen will not automatically be looking like a cube. You need to make sure beryl-manager is running and then check the settings to see what buttons make the desktop cube rotate.

Some good info here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Windows_and_Linux

It's not so much what can Sabayon do that Windows can't. It's a personal preference. Some folks like to install programs and click next several times and it's all done. Others like to know exactly what is being installed and how. They also can specify HOW the package is installed. What options get installed, what options don't and it's a lot more specific than most win32 packaged exe "custom install" options.

Another reason I like different flavors of linux is that even though a windows box and Linux box can be hardened (secured) equally well, Windows systems and the world are getting so homogeneous that's there's going to come a time that will be the downfall of many businesses.

Follow my thinking here:

All systems are the same for the most part worldwide because MS has done such a great job "helping" IT people dumber and dumber. Windows Server OS and Windows XP/Vista/Whatever will be next.

What happens when a species' gene pool is so "pure" as in all animals are almost identical? One "bug" that affects that specific gene pool wipes them out in a single blow. Extinction.

With Operating Systems it is very similar. All windows installs are getting to the point of being identical across companies worldwide. There just aren't enough ways to configure the install to make them different enough.

With Linux distros, there are an indefinite number of ways to configure the install of the OS and software packages which makes them less susceptible to "disease" and extinction from the previous ramblings.

That's just something to think about.

Might never happen, but I think to some extent it will.

I agree 100% with Ruel. I have most of my systems with the norm but I also have a select few personalized to Linux.

For those that might want to try Linux, I say try MINT LINUX. Its a very very easy OS to load and work with and for the average user, you can make it run without problems.
