Name a tool or piece of gear that once you got it, you don't know how you got along without it. For me it's a tie between my harbor freight tri-fold loading ramp and my camelback.

id have to say my high capasity compressor, im only 15 so i can only use what my dad has till i buy my own tools (i do own a 30 peice socket set lol ) but i use that compresor for everything from cleaning spark plugs, to cleaning carbs, to filling tires, and i got it for the price of a pancake compresor because lowes made a mistake

Too many to list, but since I have to pick I would say a torque wrench. I am a torque fanatic, and like everything to be tightened to spec.

well i have a lot of hondas so I would have to say my cheap spark plug wrench that I got with a chain saw. it comes apart and fits neatly in between the seat and fender. That and spare plugs are really neaded on a honda

id say the thing i use most would be my welder. i bought it for 90 bux at wal-mart 7 years ago and im still using it. it doesnt do great 1/4 inch or thicker but it does what i need it too. it is my far my most used tool other than my tools in my tool boxes.

My MAC toolbox; about four feet wide and filled with tools in my garage at home. It's only a few years old, looks brand new and I got it for a great deal.

I was running short on room in it, but I picked up a red, three drawer, lateral file cabinet as big as my MAC toolbox for free and put all my power tools and boxed sets/kits in it. Problem solved, plenty of room again!

id have to say my mechanix gloves as well, those things are amazing, no sore hands, grease stains, or cuts. i also used them for riding when i dont have any near by, but unfortunately i left them on my gas tank one ride and they were gone quick, now i have to fork over another 40 bucks for a pair lol. and then i would have to say my trailer, becuase before that i never had one, i bought it for 100 and payed 100 to rebuild it and it has already payed for itself, its just big enough to carry my big bear350, my trx200sx and my pitbike, and just about anything else i have to carry.

I have a few military camelback's and they work but they don't have as much room as my Platapuss does but it doesn't carry as much water as my camelback(only 2 liters compared to a gallon and a half)

As far as tools go, I would have to say that I use my 1/4" metric socket set more than anything else in my tool box... As for gear... I cant believe that I rode as long as I did without proper riding boots...I had no idea what i was missing...

electric tape !!! its saved my but so many times. like once my throttle cable housing broke and it was causing my engine to rev. so i taped a splint on to the cable till i got home. ive also used it for fuel leaks and other temp fixes to get me home. other than that a cell phone is great to have. but ill take my tape any day.

Zip ties, baling wire and black tape. You can fix anything short of your engine exploding into 400 peices with those 3 items.

ATV lift and air tools (1/2 impact and 3/8 ratchet) are my most valuable helpful tools. Air ratchets make tear down - re-assembly so much faster.

For gear I can't go without my Vortex 1800 back-pack. That thing carries so much stuff, like a change of clothes, spare chain, tools, hardware, drinks and more! It fits great too.

For tools my favorite I would have to say are my snap-on ratcheting tee-handles, stocked with an 8mm and 10mm. I use those the most out of the tools in my moto box. :D

Gear- riding boots best thing ever

Accesories- nerf bars

Tools- Booster pack that can jump start, flood light, 2-12 volt cigerette outlets, 120volt outlet, air compressor. I take that thing everytime I leave town with the machines, it is by far the best household tool I have ever bought.

I'm not sure if this fits in the gear area, but widened/extended foot pegs are something I will not do without on any ATC/ATV I own ever again.
On the Tri-Z and the 350x I made them myself, on the DS650 I bought a set of IMS/Roll designs. They sure make riding alot more comfortable, and give me that extra little bit of confidence in the turns and on the jumps.

I bought a pair of mechanix gloves yesterday after someone mentioned them in this thread. Never used them before but I think I like them. Instead of scrubbing my hands clean after working on the trikes, I just took the gloves off and ate dinner.

They kinda suck when you're dealing with small bolts but the rest of the time they're nice. Thanks for the tip.

channel locks are angle head pliers with different pivot points

honda_atc200es
08-21-2007, 02:41 AM
oh, i thought vice grips and channel locks were the same, you ajust the size with a screw on the bottom, them clam it onto what you want to, then when you want to relase it you press in the lever on the handel

smokinwrench
08-21-2007, 08:07 AM
Channel Lock and Vice Grip are both brand names just like Cresent.

A Cresents proper name is open end adjustable wrench.

I'm sure vise grips are locking pliers.

There are so many different kinds of pliers I would hate to guess what your callign channel locks.

Gloves also really keep your hands from becoming soar. Ive had a couple of long builds without gloves, and the next day I cant use my hands. Bolts and chains and wires will eat your hands up!
