I would clean out the carb and then go from there also clean out the petcock while your at it.

I have an '85 200M and it will run WFO all day long if tried to. I have run it wide open a lot during hunting trips to Lake Abitibi in northern Ontario.
Check to see if you have sufficient fuel flow from tank to carb. If you pull off the fuel line and open the petcock on the tank, you should see a steady stream of gas. If it just dribbles out, something is clogged in the petcock. Also check the fuel hose to make sure it is not clogged or kinked. If your machine will run wide open for even a short time then it is unlikely to be a carb problem other than a very low float level, but I think that would create other driveability problems as well. Verify sufficient fuel flow first. Good Luck, GlennMc.

try a different gas cap if the petcock and fuel line are good.
