I bought this little gem off craigslist about a month ago ( I bought it in jully) , the people were nice enought to hong on to it till I can get down there to pick up (gainsville fla, next sunday) it used to be a pop up camper with the camper part removed, the only problem is the tires they have a slow leak, and Im woundering if they will make the trip back to my house, its a 4 llug wheel and the owner said it says 4.80 - 12 on the tire, they dont know the lug pattern but what is the most common? I would like to take a few spares if I could. I plan on making this little trailer my race trike hauler (good for 2 machines) with a front wind splitter side bodies with all my sponsor stickers on it and some custom paint, but first I got to get it home. any help?

how far is it from where you have to go, if you live 10 min away, take it and run, other wise you need to register it, and get some lights and stuff as well otherwise the cops will get you

SYKO

Those campers used an odd bolt pattern that doesn't cross to anything automotovie as far as I know. New trailer tires on rime are usually pretty cheap compared to car tires. Check with any local camper place and they should be able to hook you up.

alot of them were a 4 on 4 bolt pattern similar to a golf cart and 84 Tecates, but they should be 8 in wheels on that.

SYKO
08-26-2007, 10:04 AM
well the owner says there 12, and I got a set of 8's for a trailer and I can tell that there totally smaller than the ones on the pic, so the bolt pattern is simmilar to a golf cart huh....maybe I'll jsut slime them up good at gabes house

Take an air tank with you and stop at the Flying J on your way back to top the tires off. That is what I do when I am on the road with unreliable tires. Flying J has free air and is almost in the middle of your path of travel.

Std 4 by 4. Get a bill of sale and the Cops should not mess with you too much unless they are Troopers- they have nothing else to do but run traffic. Meter maids with guns, I tell ya.

Wal-Mart by me sells 13 inch tires on rims with that bolt pattern for 35 bucks each.

I have a spare for you too. Just sold my trailer that was made form the pop up camper frame....Remember that one from the ocala ride????

Good luck

SYKO

how much you want for that spare man?

SYKO

ok finnaly got around to yanking the awesome linolium and wood floor off the frame, what was left weight jsut a bit over 150 lbs! super light trailer for sure! did some frame gusseting and and repair

here it is bare frame

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-618S-1.jpg

here is my metal of choice its 3/16 thick aluminum alloy slightly heavier and way stronger then regular aluminum and cuts easy with a circular saw and a carbon saw blade

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-622S-1.jpg

heres a peice cut out laying on the trailer

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-623S.jpg

here is one sheet with part of it already cut off! they come in 20ft lenghts cost? nada zero zipp! it cant be recycled so they just stack it for junk, I can get unlimited amounts of this crap!

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-624S.jpg

and here is my progress for 4 hrs of working on it, (it started to rain and I need some more angle iron)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-625S.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-626S.jpg

its just laying on there, I have to finish making all the cuts for everything, It will have a wind splitter up front and sides all the way down as well, once I get everything sized up and drilled I will take it all apart and clean&paint the frame before reataching the metal to it, it will also be bonded with fusor metal to metal bond as well so this thing will be a beast!

after its all put together it will get sanded primmed and painted to mach my truck (black) and all my sponsor stickers will be put on there as well

it will be set up only to hold 2 trikes my 250R flat tracker and my bud Derecks
TRI-Z flat tracker, and verious things like gas and stuff like that

WOW, thats some super nice decking... And the price is sooooo right. DAM, why can't we all live closer to one another, I want some cheap decking!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!

Whats the difference from aluminum to aluminum alloy? Except that a sheet of .1875 aluminum is a couple hundred bucks plus!! Still lightweight, strong and easy to work with I imagine??

SYKO
10-07-2007, 09:55 PM
super strong, very VERY hard to weld so im not even going to attempt that, I may get another sheet and cut out some sick skidplates from it!

Nice score on that trailer! It is coming along great and it will look sick when you are done! Great job! That trailer appears to have the same wheels/tires on it that my boat trailer has, which I am able to get spare wheels with tires pre-installed for about 65 bucks a piece at the local tractor supply store / farm store. I keep a minimum of two extras on hand at all times, but my trailer has double axles on it. I wish I could find a score like that for a trailer to haul my trike/bikes! Lucky!

SYKO
10-08-2007, 12:04 AM
I wish it had larger tires but there rating is super high and way higher than this trailer will ever have on it I dont think 2 trikes are heavier than a pop up camper? lol it pulls sweet to!

SYKO
10-12-2007, 09:57 AM
I did alittle work last night on it heres the progress I plan on cutting the sides in oh....in about....30 mins.... lol I love my job!!

got bored....so I went outside and cut a side for it! lol its just held on there with vise grips right now, but this will be the over all shape of the trailer now, of course it will be tightend up and bolted together, and painted!

my trailer was a pop up too and what i used for an axle was a early dodge mini van rear.

they have a nice drop axle thats real easy to mount up on the old pop ups....plus you get nice d.o.t tires that can handle at least some weight and wont over heat on long distances

SYKO
10-12-2007, 05:15 PM
well I know these tires (o the ones I plan on puttin gon there) are rated fo 1300lbs apeice, so I know I wont over weight the tires , this tailer will only tip the scales at 400lbs or so unloaded so were looking at 1200lbs tops loaded including the weight of the trailer

SYKO
10-13-2007, 03:38 PM
OK well, since ive had a bad night I stayed here at the house today and worked on my trailer Ive accomplised quite a bit, mind you nothing is finished bolted or even reinforced yet, I simply wanted to get the major stuff out of the way and check a few things on it so here are some pics!

behind my truck to see overall lenght and hight in comparison to my truck

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-649F.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-650F.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-651F.jpg

now the fun part test fitting.....my flat tracker is apart and so is Derecks tri-z flat tracker so I have to make due with other things

trully I wanted both machines to fit in a row 1 behinde the other, but now I see that isnt possible unless i redo the whole front air dam and v it into the tounge with is something I didnt want to do in the first place

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-652F.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-653F.jpg

so... I turned the ALT side ways, wich most likely My 250R will be up front and sideways and derecks TRi-z will follow it, like the blaster is sitting right now

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-654F.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/MVC-655F.jpg

thats it for now, I have to drill a bunch of holes now for bolts make the reinforcement for the air dam mount the little tailgate and mount lower flapper , then grind and smooth the edges take all back apart paint and reasemble + put new tires on and add LED trailer lights with side markers

to bad I couldnt just paint it to match my truck with the flames and all, but I plan on putting all my sponsor stickers on this so I can keep my windows clean on my truck, pluss I think it will look baddasss rolling down the interstate with 2 wicked raced out trikes in full view for everyone!!!

:TrikesOwn

also would you beleive even with the machine son there the tounge weight is sill almost non existant! so this will take some time to get to ware it tows well!

heres a few pics of my trailer i made out of a pop up 10 years ago.

i went for a more traditional look but you can see in the first pic that it sits higher with the dodge mini van rear under it(i added a 1 inch lift block since my bronco is lifted)

the second pic shows how i exstended it a foot in the back (the showa sticker is on the new peice i added)

the 3rd pic shows the foot exstention in the front and how i closed in the tounge area....now its 10 feet long and 6' 2'' wide inside

oh yeah...in the first pic right below the deck in the center you can see my air gauge....i mounted a air tank under the trailer so i always have onboard air if i need it

just thowing some ideas your way man

SYKO
10-14-2007, 02:35 PM
I almost went that rought, but I wanted something alittle bit flashier and lower like my truck, let me ask you this how well does it pull? what speeds? how many machines on it??

SWIGIN
10-14-2007, 02:42 PM
i had it up to 100 or so......it pulls real smooth with the mini van suspention

i only built it for 2 full size quads but i could get 3 trikes on it....maybe 4

sweet! I dont think I will encounter any problems, If I ever upgrade the axle i will put a trailing axle out of a mid 90's nissan maxima and then air bag the trailer, so when I lay my truck out I can do the same for my trailer, now that would be trick as *DO NOT TYPE AROUND THE WORD FILTER!*

well saturday I decided to bolt this thing together so I spent about 3 hrs measuring drilling and bolting it together, it still needs about 40 more bolts, but is amost done with that, at least enough to test it out.

so after bolting it up I hooked it to the tuck and pulled out, first drive 4 miles up to 70mph unloaded, no probs, no sway nothing pulled sweet

second pull 350x and yami blaster on board 4 miles up to 70mph again no problems no say hell I tried to make it sway and it would track right back straight, awesome!

today 65 miles round trip 350x up to 75mph no problems!! this thing rules!! now I cant wait to finish it all the way!

mind you I did all this ith probably 30year old dry rotted tires as well! I was worrying the whole time about those things!

current pic stil unfinished sitting at the river

well I decided on a slow day this week (thursday) I would try to finish this pup up, I allready haved used it a few times, and was alittle embarrased at the uglyness of it so I needed to get it done.

I didnt show any pics of the process, but wensday night I put the trailer on its side and painted the underside with martin senour indutrial coating in gloss black (used that for the whole thing anyway)

then thursday I took all the panels back off down to the bare frame, did some touch up paint, some welding and some grinding, then before I put the panels back on I used 4 tubes of industrial construction adheasive to glue it together and make a solid bond all the way around, then I bolted everything back together, added additional bolts and then sanded the whole thing. After all that I applied 2 coats of the industrial black and went to bed. Today after work I did some tweaking on it and added some of my sponsor stickers to it. I still have plans to get either new wheels (alloys) or just paint the wheels that are on it (silver) and add a few more stickers, Also I still have to cut the wheelbarrow I bought to use for the wheel tubes, but I jsut wanted to get it halfway presentable to take some pics!

whatcha guys thinK? Im only in about 300 dollars for the whole thing including new tires, the paint, lights and the purchase price! it only weighs roughly 3-400 lbs! so its super light if even that much!

its low so picking up a trike and putting it on there is not a problem, when I go some where 2 spares are carried in the truck

really I like the floor smooth, that way it will always be easy to clean, plus a sheet big enought to do the floor would cost waay more than what I built the trailer for!

Looks pretty nice. You are definately determined.

A word of caution though. Those little 12 inch tires are only rated for speeds of 65mph.They spin so fast they will overheat the wheel bearings at high speeds. That is what I was told anyway.

Another word of cuation,My buddy had the same design with the wheels protruding above the deck. One of his trikes came unstrapped and bounced over and his trike wheel rubbed the tralier wheel and blew out both tires.(the tralier tire and trike tire)
You may want to box these in just in case. They sell them round gaurds at TSC for like 10 bucks each.
Not raining on your parade, just dont want to see that happen to you.

Can you load one trike backward at a angle, then role the other trike in forward to fit both in there?

did you see all my pics??? ive had all kinds of machines on here! also if you would have read everything I plan on putting wheel tubs on there, the tires I got are the 6 ply 12's rated past 80 I did a trip on them and when I stoped I felt the tire and it was still cold, 2 trikes and a trailer only make 900 lbs total each of these tires are rated at 1650 each (6 ply) so there not even close to be over weighted and stressed. I dont think anything will give me trouble and also thise has the large style hub and bearings on it wich I have Mucho amounts of grease packed in.

you should make the sides a little taller and hinge them and make it a side ramp drive on trailer.
or you could make a pocket in the bottom for a set of ramps so you can drive up on the side.

just given some ideas..

btw it looks sweet!! I like the truck too!!
