Actually, it's my 2005 that I completely disassembled and changed the colors to look like the 86 trx250r. I used maier plastic and had a local sign guy make the decals. I don't have a picture, but I have the pro-link decals on the swingarm, too. I am very happy with how it turned out. As far as I know, I don't think anyone has done this before, but I may be wrong.

I hope so, I'm very proud of it! I've never had a good idea before that someone else didn't beat me to.

Thats awesome! If I had a 450R, I would want one looking like that! I think some original TRX250R wheels would look badass on it though.

Thanks for the compliments. I tried to buy some new 250r wheels but they were discontinued. They were also close to $200 each when they were available. I just used the factory wheels and had a show powdercoat them to look like the gold anodized wheels. It only cost $60 to do the set. I know it's not the exact color, but I did my best by looking at pictures. The same goes for the gold paint on the suspension. The honda code would not come up in my paint system so I had to look at pictures to custom make a color. I could look up the red and it's actually honda passion red. For the tank, I found a white that matched the new plastic. All of the paint is automotive.

Here is a picture of the back end. It isn't the best picture, but there are pro-link decals on both sides of the swingarm as well as the back.

Hey Bondo boy, it looks great! And if you want the proper color, you can get color matching at some stores(lowes, home depot, craft stores) where they scan a closeup pictures and can recreate the exact shade and tone of color.

Very nice indeed!!!

I'm sure that will get printed. Trick as heck and definitely unique!!

Great job!!

Thanks for the compliments. Icp4life, I did the best that I could matching the gold by eye from a picture. Scanning a picture would not work. The scanners need an actual part that you're trying to match. I have worked in a body shop for several years and now I work in an auto body supply store, so I have quite a bit of experience with this. Also, scanning at lowes or home depot is out, as I use automotive paint. I appreciate the response, though. The red on the frame is actually Honda red because I could look up that paint code.

Outstanding job, I also had to take a double take, thought it was a hybred at first, if they don't print that I would be amazed.

That is pretty sweet, I'll definatly be watching for it in dirt wheels.

I've often wondered why Fullbore or maier doesn't make old style fenders for the new quads. I think the '88/9 250r is one of the best looking quads made, put that plastic on a newer 450 would be a killer combo.

bondoboy
08-30-2007, 07:54 AM
Thank you. I wasn't worried about the plastic being the old style, I just wanted the old colors on the new style. That's a neat idea, though. I just wanted to build a modern version of an 86.

to bad honda does not go back to white, red and blue atv's. you should try and submit it to dirtwheels or somthing and maybe see if you could make a retro kit. i know one industries made a retro kit for the crf450R dirtbike to look like it was back in 1985 when the cr500 was king of big bore...honestly the retro kit looked better on the bike the the current version...this was around 05-06 i think it was...i got the mag it was in.

I wish dirt wheels said something like "Honda are you guys listening" The honda development and marketing should do a limited edition in old school colors ...worked well for yamaha they sold a ton of stuff in 06 with their yellow/black anniversy stuff

Better yet, if you're already in Southern Indy, why not bring it to Trike Fest this year ?

I would really like to go to trikefest, but I don't think I will be able to afford the trip. I wanted to go this year, but it just didn't happen.

Certainly the coolest 450R I've seen. I, like you, am sick of the new-school over done graphics. The KISS principle never fails.
