So im looking for a couple of parts, and I go to ebay to see what folks are getting for some parts. 1st thing I notice is the carbs.recoils, brake calipers/mastercyl. and headlights seem to have bids or multiple bids. But for the most part it seems that theres a lot of other parts that have no bids. So do the guys parting these things just end up with a trike thats worthless, because all the sellable parts are sold? Am I missing something here. wouldnt it be easier just to put the trike together and sell them running? jim

Unfortunately they're worth more in parts than whole. Alot of people restoring theirs need good parts.

Say you have a 185S for example. just for the sake of argument, say its got good fenders, lights, smokes a little, decent tires, seat. Now I imagine one in this shape would sell for 300-400 if your lucky. but say you parted it out. I imagine the headlight, carb, recoil, maybe the plastic would sell, but for how much? then you have a builder motor sitting in a frame. I imagine the rare bikes would part out okay, Ive got 87 200X trikes. I did a search for 87 200X and nothing really comes up. I guess what im getting at is just because its listed on ebay doesnt mean its going to sell. jim

BELIEVE me, every single 87 200X part would sell. That key switch alone could grab over 150$. They aren't listed on EBAY because there aren't any!! The 86 is almost identical and from time to time they do show up and most always sell.

If you list it, make sure to list it as "86 87 HONDA ATC 200X ATC200X", hell I'd even throw an "85" in there just for the exposure.

I watched all 60 auctions from an 86 350X sell not too long ago it was a nice clean ATC. He made 3600$ and whatever extra he made on the shipping. Even if he paid about 2G's he made over a grand cleaning, parting, listing and shipping.

Difference is that there are lots of beat and broken 83 to 85 200X's out there and not so many 86/87 200X's.

You could get stuck with a frame but even that is desirable because it is an 87. The motors are almost 100$ to ship and only seem to sell for about 100 to 300$ All the little parts will sell unless they are beat up bad.

just to let you guys know, the key switch itself is the same thing as a key switch for a xr/crf50, same applies for the key switch for 87-89 trx250r's. The housing and related parts are the rare parts.

I posted the 200X on craigslist locally I got one guy telling me that there was no such animal. I just cant bring myself to part out these things. Even the most POS trike, ive got running and then sold local. Only the 250Rs are the ones I couldnt get running. mainly because the motors were just too expensive. Jim

Post your trikes for sale in the Phoenix craigslist as well. A lot of people would be willing to drive down there for the right deal but not many check the tucson listings.

Parting a trike is kind of a pain. I'm getting ready to list all of my extra 350x parts but I'm not looking forward to it. Pretty sure I'll end up with some leftovers. It's only worth the trouble for certain models. I wouldn't bother with a first gen 200x or a 185 or something like that.

If I can convince myself to sell them I will put them up in phoenix craigslist. I just got my cam kit for the next big block. If I sell them, its going to be to raise money for my big block changeover in my camaro. Jim

ive bin watching recoils, and carbs for 185s/200s. they go for a bit. i once saw a 22mm carb go for 70.00 +shipping and a recoil for dam near 130.00 + shipping. but they were mint so i guess its not too bad. a dealer wants over 200.00 for a recoil. but as far as the rest of a 185s/200s you dont get allot well other than the coils and a couple other stuff. you could part out a 185s/200s for 500.00 if the parts are in good condition.
