This is what was waiting for me when I returned home from a trip to Florida last week. She said she heard a scraping sound for a week before this happened. Every time she drives my truck something gets broke or falls off.

The pictures are bad. The whole hub assebmly including the rotor came off. The inner bearing is in peaices. I have not taken the hub apart yet, so I still not know fure what happened. I just put it up on a jack stand. When I get some enery I'll get that heavy ass tire and out of the back of the truck.

Now I have to fix her truck and mine before I leave. I might be getting a new truck when I return and leaving it stock.

OOOOOOOkay. This is what I have found. The inner bearing is gone and has worn itself into a groove on the rear of the spindle. The outer bearing looks unscathed. It still looks as new as when I installed it in December. The damage to the outer part of the spindle appears to have occurred when it hit the ground. The retaining nut assembly is good shape with no damage. That is intriguing, because they were not connected to anything. How in the hell would they back off? I have my doubts that happened, because nothing welded itself together. The remains of the inner bearing will not come off, but it does spin on the spindle. The only time I have seen hub nuts back off is when the friction of a failed hub forces it to do so. Usually the bearing and other components welded them selves together and that created the right amount of friction to break the lock washer. Mine is not broken. I am not sure what to think about this one.

I will not enter the Chevy, Ford, and Dodge debate. I have had experience with all of them and I have learned one thing. They all make great vehicles and they all make junk. What it all comes down to is how YOU take care of what you drive. I have seen work trucks get 300,000 miles and a new truck get less than 50,000. It all depends.

YUP that is TRUE! like ronnies rag has 300k miles(ford) and our van (Dodge)has 200k and they both run great still

GM boy right here :) Don't get my started with all that lol

Damn, well with them 22.5 alcoa's that could have been the problem right? those big tires if not aligned right could seriously put a strain on the spindles and bearing

LonesomeTriZ

I think I had a bad bearing. Nothing else was damged until the hub came apart. I wish I could go back to the store and get some kind of money back. The bearings do not have that much use on them.

And by the way, our F250 gas burner has 230,000 and runs like it is new. As long as you take care of your vehicle, it will run forever.

If it werent for Dodge's transmission shops all over the country would be belly up. You said it right in the heading, NEVER EVER let your woman drive your truck. She heard sounds for a week and didnt think anything of it? Maybe you should let her help fix stuff so she will recognize those selfdestruct noises when she hears them.

That is what really gets me. She does help with repairs. she has put in work on all of the biulds, retorations, and major repairs. She just assumed something was rubbing.

The more I dig the more I find. The parts costs are adding up. I found out today the break line was rubbed thorugh. I am assuming that happened after the hub failed.

Tell her that ASSUMING makes an @$$ of u an me. Atleast she helps though man, probably one in a couple thousand are willing to get dirty. That should make you feel a little better. My mom has killed countless cars because she didnt even bother to check the basics, one car was overheating,no water at all, so she just kept trucking and trucking. That motor was heat welded into one big solid aluminum paper weight.

That psses me off. People like that do not deserve to drive. For the most part, my wife does well taking care of out vehicles and equipment. This time around she made a mstake. I am not agry with her, I ma just glad it happened before I left for Iraq. I am now in the proccess of replacing everything. Good thing I just happened to have three spare spindles.

So, she heard this strange noise coming from the wheel, everyone on the freeway was honking and pointing, so she just waved or pointed at that phone on her ear that she was busy and drove it like that around? Or are you just pulling our collective legs?

LonesomeTriZ
10-05-2007, 09:38 PM
She normally does not make mistakes like this one. she simply thought the noise was coming from something else. If I was home, I would have caught it before several hundred dollars of damage was done.

But wouldn't the fact that the truck was kinda limping to one side quite abnormally give away that 'something' just wasn't right here?

LonesomeTriZ
10-07-2007, 10:43 PM
I would think. I was not there though. so I cannot say what she should have done. I know if I heard the noise, I would have either got it home or had it transported.
