Ive heard talk about this topic before but I have never seen it done. Has anyone done this? How difficult is this kind of project? I have an old cr125 motor sitting in my basement and i have no use for it. Maybe i'll give this project a shot and see how it works out. I just need to find a 200x rolling frame first though.

Ideas? Comments?............

I have a thread on mad scientist lair where I'm building a ATC125r project out of an 85 200x with a 79 cr125r aircooled motor but I've been working on other projects lately and have not had time to finish it up.

Im actuallt interested in this too but i have and old yz 125 motor and atc 200 frame layin around. May try to find another suspened frame to go flattracking on. Found out today they my have an occasional atv/atc flat track race locally :)

I'm doing a similar project, but using a PE175cc two stroke.

It's a tight fit in there, but seeing as a 125 is smaller, I don't see it being too difficult. Couple things that you might run into would be rear brake lever since the 200X lever attaches to the engine, rear kick, utilizing the stock airbox (if you wanted to), and a few other little things that I'm forgetting. Overall, mine hasn't been to difficult so far, so I think a 125 would be fairly easy.

Yeah, I just looked at a picture of a 200x frame and it doesnt look too hard. On top of those issues that have already been brought up...I need to also figure out radiator placement, etc....my cr125 engine is a 87'....liquid cooled.

We'll see what happens. I have my hands full with my tri-z right now but the thought of a little atc 125R is soooo very tempting though!

I wonder how a 200x with a liquid cooled and powervalved cr125 motor will stack up against a 85' or 86' R......

I've never seen one in person, but from looking at a few different pictures, it looks like it mounts through the frame.

I think there's one or two pics floating around.. The expansion chamber hitting the frame would probably be the biggest obstacle.

You could also go the route im going and just use the cr chassis.

I dont have the frame though. I have the engine, carb, and some linkage.

Anyone have a fully suspended trike frame they are selling cheap. Dont care what kind it is really....250R, 200X, 350X, etc.

There was a complete 200x in n. brookfield about a month ago for like 300 bux, ill see if i can find his number. It was rough, but complete.

Theres an airfooled 250r for sale in N Brookfield right now too. Its an 83' and the engine needs a full re-build but other than that, the rest of the trike is excellent. I may just have to pick it up!

Man I wish my motor was that short. The 175 is a lot taller than that, and it's making the pipe pretty hard to route.
I like that red motor though, are you keeping like that?

Yep also the tank will be red with the yellow wing decals like they ran on all the 2 stroke bikes of that era and probly an 84 250r front fender.

EDIT:Heres what I mean about the pipe being difficult to route... not a whole lotta room in there, especially with the tank on.

Well i didnt find his number, but i was driving through so i stopped by the guys house, he sold it unfortunately, sad part is for 150 bux. That aircooler, is that the one thats on craigslist?

yeah, it needs a bit of work though. Engine is done...needs a complete overhaul....rodbearings, top end, etc.....that motor is done. But the rest looks ok. New plastics, all controls are there, etc. Needs brake work, axle bearings, and a few other odds and ends. Im going to shoot him an offer and see what he does.

Yes sir it's a six speed close ratio gearbox and these little motor's are high winding powerhouse's.

well then it is a perfect motor for that frame then, i was just wondering about the wieght ratio, how much does the cr frame wiegh and how much does the 200x frame wiegh plus rider?

The complete CR bike probably weighs about 160 to 200 lbs, dry (no fuel). 200X weighs about 260 to 280 (i'm guessing) but that's because it's got a heavy 4-stroke engine. Stick the CR engine into it and it will weigh around 230-250 lbs, so the acceleration will be slightly toned down, but it'll still have a wicked powerband and probably enough power to get that front wheel up in the air nicely.

Redrider is just about right on the weights, The X is 282lbs stock, and I don't know for sure what the CR weighs, but since the 07's weigh 197lbs dry, I'd assume it was a little more than that.
And he's right about the heavy engine, when I had mine out, the X engine weighed in at 60lbs, while my 175 weighed in at 45lbs. I'd assume that 1upfront's engine weighs around 10lbs less than mine so his would probably weigh in around 250. Not too bad at all.

I think an older CR would actually weigh less. The newer ones have liquid cooling, which is heavier than some fins on the cylinder and head.

Although, the newer CR's also have aluminum frames... :wondering

I also only weigh 120 pounds and yes I believe the 79 cr125 weighed less than the new one.

Yes you are correct, air cooled cr's were very light. 175-180 lbs. Smaller frame material and suspension components really kept the overall weight down. Plus the lack of liquid cooling. I think this is one of the smoothest looking converts i've seen in a long while. The red engine along with the other parts he's adding in will make for an outstanding looking machine. I've met 1up at Smith Road, and with his background in paint and body, this is sure to be an awesome looking bike when done. Not to mention a strong running one when you consider the weight of the entire package including rider.
