If the one you found is in good shape without any damage/abuse on the engine and a decent frame, I'd snatch it up for a grand! Plastics don't really matter.

Location location location! What will bring 3k in one state will only be half in another. Around here its hard to find a decent runner for under 2500

I think 1,000 is a good deal for a running and in ok shape for a zilla. Like jeffatc250r said...the market place drives the price for things, thats why people often drive a good distance to get things. Also, things are only worth what others are willing to pay. No matter the price, if you feel comfortable with buying something then get it...if your buddy thinks you overpaid thats his opinion but obviously to you, you felt it was a good deal.
