Is it safe to use a 14 volt on a 18volt tool?

I have a 18 volt rigid combo kit is it safe to use the 14 volt battery? I bought a 14 volt by mistake and cannot return it I just dont want to damage this tool kit thanks

if it fits use it .. it wont last as long as the 18v check the charger too.. it might only charge the 18v only ..

you can even go the other way with the batterys....if they fit

I borrow the guys 18volt batteries for my 24V Ridgid when I'm out of juice and on a roof or something.... But, those 24V lithium ions are amazing and I rarely need to borrow their batteries....

They work in the tools but it is not good for the motor to run on low juice. Its likes the things in your house if your running things on low power is will eventually burn the motor out.

I'm not sure if thats true, this is DC and not AC. Lower direct current just changes the RPM to my knowledge.

it fits in the charger but i think I will just keep the 14 volt battery for just the flashlight just to be safe thanks to all who helped me I payed alot for this kit and dont want to ruin it

If the battery clicks in you can use it..no harm to the motor , it will just spin slower that's all.

Brushed motors Ie: your drill .. can take a wide range of voltage.

Brushless motors however, need a speed control circuit to work and the circuit is limited in operating voltage.. but the motors are not.

DO NOT CHARGE A 14V BATTERY WITH AN 18V CHARGER.... YOU MUST GET THE RIGHT VOLTAGE CHARGER....

Is it the Ridgid X2 combo kit?? Ive been eyeing those things for a while...right now I have a makita one that is nearly worn out...Dont want a dewalt because the batteries dont charge when they are warm. Its between a makita Lith-ion and ridgid..How does it compare to other combo kits? if you have tried any others..

a lower voltage will not harm a DC motr.....that is how RPM on a DC motor are regulated. on a 18V drill, you could run a 20V battery without a problem....DC motors can handle a third more power than intended for without harming it....about twice the intended voltage is where problems will arise.

a 14V battery will only make the drill less powerful. will not harm drill in any way
