My dads quad has recently started making a griding noise occasionally. Thought it might be rear end bearings but it wasn't. Checked to make sure there was no dirt/sand inside the chain cover. There was no metal in the oil. Shifts through all gears great. Clutch is good. Any ideas?

thanks

have someone get on it, and go slow, and walk/joj next to it, and try to figure out where its coming from.

Happens only at higher speeds. Any common issues with this motor like premature bearing failure, clutch failures? Example 1996 ford taurus trasmissions.

Ive never heard of anything going wrong with those motors, they also use that motor in the klr 250 bikes, and I know of a few that have over 50,000 miles on them and run like the day they were bought, check to see if everything is tight I MEAN EVERYTHING! then go from there, usualy you can feal clutch failure or problems through the lever somewhat same with trans, does it feal notchy? check your timing chain adjuster (cant remember if thats on those or not) it could be slappin in the cylinder at high speed, is the drive chain hitting anything? are the chain scrubbers all there?

Thanks I'll pass that info on to my dad :). I'll post the resolution when he gets it fixed. In the mean time I am up for any possibilities of the problem :)
