I need a rear shock for my '88 Quadracer 250 and am unwilling to put out for a new Works or Elka or Fox or something like that. You can find new take-offs on ebay from various new sport quads that all look pretty much the same and they all have a key difference from my stock rear shock...they use a link on the swinger which makes the lower mount different, see pick below. The shock pictured below is typical of those off new sport quads, it has a regular eye on top and a bracket-like bottom mount to fit the link on the swinger. I was wondering if anyone had ever adapted one of these to use in place of a shock that needed a regular eye on the bottom? I was thinking I might try it with a heavy rubber bushing between the gap on the bracket and mount the bottom bolt through the shock and bushing. Don't know if it will work, but I'd like to try it. I'm looking at something like a LTR450 or YFZ450 rear shock, the TRX450R rear resevoir doesn't look like it will fit, I think the horizontal resevoir won't fit in the space I have.

The rear shock on a Raptor 660 looks like it will work and has regular eyes on top and bottom, how good are these rear shocks?

I wanted one with a resevoir and some adjustability cause I'm gonna XC race this quad...on the cheap if I can.

Thanks, Chris

Check out polaris rear shocks, was gonna post an ebay link of one but remembered the rules...lol anyways The polaris rear shocks are mostly built by fox. Look up the polaris predator, the 400 scrambler, and 500 scrambler.

Thanks Chris, that's a good idea, I'll check it out.

The factory shock is actually pretty good... If you get one rebuilt and revalved for your weight it should be more than adequate...

IDK. Are the 85 and 88 the same? Lots of things are different between these two models.

I picked up a pair of '07 LT450R front take-offs. Only had about 6 hours on them and the guy says they are really good. I figure anything new is way better than the old stuff on it now. On ebay I won a rebuilt stock shock. Hopefully I will be pretty good on suspension now, I just hope the rebuilt rear is set-up for someone close to my 240 lbs.

Hey digity, I noticed that you and I have nearly the same rides. You and I should swap notes one day about lessons learned from our machines. I gotta ask though, which one is faster the Tecate or the Quadracer? I know my Tecate is faster, and probably handles better too, but lots of time and money have been thrown at it to get it that way. Rebulding a stock shock is cheap n easy, just get a seal kit, take it to a shop and have them fill it with oil n set the piston height+ fill with nitrogen, it takes all of 20 mins.
