Ford all the way. old 85f350 with about 700,000 on it, then sold to a concrete company.

dad also runs a auto repair place, and we work on too much of everything. but so far, dodge gets the award for most overpriced parts, and chevy usually gets the award for craptastic designs that need too much removal of unnecesary parts......
so far, the only ford that sux to work on that we have come across is the tucks with that 6.0 liter diesel.........its soo crammed together you cant change the belt without ripping the front end apart.

but so far, ford gets my vote of best trucks, with chev pulling a second, and dodge pulling in last......

ford actually designed and built the cummins diesels for dodge..........too bad they wont let then use the powerstrokes......they are the absolute best diesel on the market.

out excursion with a banks kit and evoltion programmer will light the tires pulling a 7500 pound enclosed car trailer, with another 4000 pound vehicle in it.....it has the 7.3 diesel in it, of course :D

Ford designed and built the Cummins? I call bullshit. Show me some proof. Cummins, is designed and built by "Cummins". I've always heard this "rumor", but with extensive research have never been able to prove it. Ford doesn't even build the Powerstroke, it's built by Navistar.

BTW, I'm a big DaimlerChrysler hater. Love Fords, like Chevy's.

My vote goes for Chevy and Ford a close second. I love them both actually. I have always heard bad things about Dodge, but never owned one. Honestly I don't think you could go wrong with any of he big three's trucks. Cars are a different story. I think GM cars are way ahead of the rest.

we know taylor of taylor cadillac's right hand man.
he showed us some official paperwork that said in legal terms that cummins diesel was a ford motor. i cannot prove it, but it looks to be pretty reliable info.

a couple chevy motors have actually been circulated through ford, then dodge by selling the plans to each other. the real proof to this is when buying some older parts for your ford, the part has a GM sticker on it, and then cdan buy that part through GM for like 1/2 the cost.........

78 K5 Blazer, 97 Grand Prix. Chevy man, and no Cummins is stand alone. Stealerships only buy the rights to the engines. Sometimes they work together and make a engine exlcusive to a rig but they are not one. My Topaz had a Perkins Diesel.

Chevy power for me, I got a 96 Z71 pickup that has ran and looked great for the past 5 years I've owned it. My family has also owned only chevy since I could remember so I kinda got raised on them. Ford is second, Dodge is 3rd. I got a question, I heard Ford is trashing their new 6.4 twin turbo and letting Caterpillar put there engines in the Fords? Anybody know anything about this? I heard the new 6.4's were having tons of problems. It seemed that the 6.0 was a very strong running engine and the 7.3 was bullet proof.

I'm a Chevy guy, but if it came to buying a diesel I would get a Dodge with a 24valve. Unless Cat and Toyota get a deal together like I've been hearing.

I call deffinet bullshit on this. Cummins designed the "Cummines" engine for Dodge, Ford did not. Ford tried to get Cummins to make a engine based on a design they gave to Cummins, but they won't do it.

Oh boy, the new 6.4 is another disaster for ford? Not good. The 6.0 was a warranty nightmare for ford, which is why the changed engine design after only 4 short years. For a diesel engine design, that's telling you something. True, the 7.3 was a reliable workhorse, and we still have many of those at work with over 200,000 miles that still run great. Our 6.0's have all had some kind of issue. Some serious, some not so bad. Gm's duramax has enjoyed a pretty good record of durability over the last 7 or so years, and seems like a good design. Dodges I-6 cummings is the oldest and arguably the best engine of the bunch. If it's true about fords new 6.4, this will spell even more losses through warranty for the struggling company.

Read my screen name. Below are my two rides, and yes, the truck has that enticing rattle that it should. :w00t:

Before this goes any further, let me clarify the Ford-Cummins connection. (deep breath) Ford, in 1990, bought LESS THAN 10% OF STOCK in Cummins (1.3M shares), as they were (and still are) using Cummins engines as an option in their medium and heavy-duty truck lines. Cummins is its own company, and has always been under its express control. Chrysler approached Cummins to use their 6BT and later 6BTA engines in their pickups when the need for a light-duty diesel pickup arose in the US market. Yes, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are considered light duty. Chrysler had previously used Mitsubishi 6DR5 diesels in the 78-79 models in an attempt to exploit their fuel mileage, but they were very underpowered and never sold well, so they were dropped. Mitsubishi built the Ram 50 pickup for Dodge, and the two companies have been partners since the early seventies, so the Mitsu diesel was a natural choice at the time. The 6B engine family was never designed to go in a pickup. It was designed to be a heavy-duty service engine for use in boats, forklifts, generators, etc. As a matter of fact, we have several 36,500lb forklifts here with 6BT engines in them. They just happened to have the power characteristics that Chrysler was looking for, and they fit in their engine bays, so a deal was struck. Back to the Ford rumor, they only owned shares, but later sold them back to Cummins in January of 1997. The day after Ford was bought out, Cummins' shares actually ROSE $1.25, closing at $46 on 04JAN97. Ford has never had any contolling interest in Cummins and they never will. Sorry for the novel, but this subject pisses me off to no end because it's been nearly eleven years since the buy-out and this rumor still won't die.

Ive had about 14 83-88 Ford Rangers in the past 7 years and only ONE blew the motor, but I bought it with a rod knocking so that was someone elses neglect there. Aside from the Rangers, Ive had 2 Dodges. An 87 Shadow that threw a rod and an 86 Daytona Turbo Z that went through a new top end in 8 months. The Turbo Z was awesome, but some butthead designer thought itd be cool to put an alluminum head on a turbo charged motor, making headgaskets a frequently replaced part.
The TurboZ was a cool car. It had 80s gadgets like digital dash and a trip console. MPG, Fuel used, miles, distance, ect... They dubbed it a 'Navigator'. Heres a pic below an 87 supercab I had.

being a professional truck and equipment mechanic...I work on EVERYTHING...petes, chevys, fords, hinos, autocars, oshkosh, caterpillar, deere, etc..............

Simplest terms: They are all junk. Nobody, including myself, is gonna make any money off something that is easy to work on and super reliable. Good maintenance, and a smart operator are the biggest factors in reliability.

That being said, i run gm pickups almost religiously. I have fooled with a few others in the past, though. Never had bad luck with any particular brand...But they all require work at some point, and i prefer older gm's (73-2000 particularly)

'MOPAR or No Car'

With that being said, I'm a MOPAR and Chevy man, with Pontiac coming a VERY close third.

There's a saying I've heard: 'There's Pontiac, and THEN there's GM'.

The ONLY reason I have my SHO is because Ford didn't build the engine, and the engine is running strong while all the Ford bits are nearly falling to pieces.

I've had to pull an F-350 Duallie out of the creekbanks TWICE! Same truck, big honking Ford, getting stuck in the rocks 20 feet away from the water on the banks, with an 89 Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 Vortec & Thrush exhaust. Two days in a row he was there, and he'd just sink and spin in the rock, so much weight he'd just dig holes.

For cars the Ford GT(don't see too many) and the dodge challenger 426 hemi(black and yellow).Love the punch the gas and your head gets whipped back feel. For trucks any 5.9 CUMMINS 12v or 24v and any 7.3l powerstroke gas trucks suck less power, reliabiltiy, value, mpg and so on.Chevy diesels have always sucked I have never seen one with more than 220000 miles so it might as well been a gas at least I'd give them a little more respecttrrpoop:lol:

dually's arent meant for off-road. You shouldnt even offroad an F-350 in general, they are way too heavy. They are meant for trailering. Any long-wheelbase truck that weighs 9000 pounds isnt going to go off-road well.

Dont blame the truck for the stupidity of the owner. I am a Ford guy all the way, and would take a blazer over a F-350 for off-road any day of the week. But lets see that Blazer tow a 15000 pound trailer.

I generally dont like new chevy's but I can respect what chevy has done and respect their 350 small block and other marvels they have made like the old school blazers.
Jeep, well if its not a wrangler its not a jeep =P
ford is just ford, mustangs being over played like a bad rap song. My dads f-150 gets the job done but isnt anything better then my friends other trucks.
Honda makes come amazing ATVs, but as for cars and trucks theres nothing other then their NSX that they dont make anymore.

I saw something about if its not a wrangler its not a jeep???? I have two AMC Jeep trucks... J10 Honcho and J20 1 ton and they are sure as heck better than the wrangler I owned... Easier to work on, and my 76 Honcho (First year for Honcho) has 3 different 4 wheel drives with Quadratrac normal drive, Emergency Drive, and Low Range Reduction unit... Makes for one awesome woods/mud truck. As far as the J20 1 ton trucks are just awesome. I have one of the Last J20s made and it is 1 of 50 J20 1 tons in 88 They both have AMC 360s and Motorcraft 2100 2 BRl. I am AMC all the way... The One they should have kept making. i was just teasing. I have alot of respect for alot of jeep brand vehicles, the Cherokees along with many others are great machines.
modern day jeep is kind of lacking but as with every other company line up. but, please a jeep compass is not really a jeep. haha =P

I think this whole thread should not be taken too seriously, i was just pulling some peoples chain.

but when it comes down to it, if you dont like wranglers then your a Nazi (remember the history aspect of wranglers, im not just using Nazi as a negative term). haha again just joking
