ok i have a kawasaki kl250 its a 4 stroke, and i need a new exhaust system now i love my bikes loud, now i was thinking casue my pipe now on it is rotted threw in alot of places and i can prob crush it in my hand, but i was thinking of running just the headers, but will i loose back pressure? i heard 4 strokes can be run like this. or my other idea was to make a pipe and put a silencer on the end of the pipe. what do you guys think? also im doing this casue im low on money and cant find another exhaust for my bike. tim

you need to run some kinda of muffler, or you will run it lean and could burn up the valvess . never done this myself but this is what im told.

ok thanks, um how bout my other idea you think i can make a pipe and put a silencer on it and it will work nice? i have no problem making a pipe and i have a shop i go to everyday so i can bend and do all the fabbing.

as long as you have some kind of pipe comming out of the head that isnt too short it wont hurt anything. look at funny cars the have short pipes for exhaust. the reason you could warp a valve is if cold air goes up the pipe and reaches the hot valves when you shut off the engine, so basically you could just run the head pipe and be fine. building you own exhaust would work also. you will get moer power if you have some sort of back pressure but not too much

ok well i have two pairs of extra headers in my garage ones maybe 2ft? alittle more or less, not to cure and runs straight back and the other curves up toward the air more. so i might take a look at how hard it is to build a exhuast first.

man... a aftermarket exhuast will always sound a million times better then some ganked up gheto crap your trying to rig, plus you wont be doing yourself any favors either by attracting all that extra attention being loud either, plus your machine wont run worth crap either.

that 1st pic is the same header on my dr200, lol. kinda weird how the one pipe is blocked off for back pressure huh?

anyway i would not patch it up. just make up something or get a universal exhaust. thats what i would do anyway. IMO its not worth patching, just get a new one.

Runnig a straight header will cuase your motor to not rev as high but it will give it a little more bottem end(From what ive expirenced). Also is sound obnoxiously loud. I think you could patch up the old exhuast but if not make one.

Build your own glasspack.

hey redrider ak i may sound stupid whats a glasspack? and how do i make it. thanks.

I have a detailed explanation here: http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showpost.php?p=516812&postcount=4

AND here's a walkthrough I made in MS Paint: http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showpost.php?p=561155&postcount=16

A glasspack is basically a racing type exhaust. Fiberglass wrapping around a perforated steel core, which helps to deaden the sound as sound passes through it.

This is basically how all the aftermarket silencers around are made, with a few small changes here and there. Stock mufflers on most quads and trikes are made with a series of baffles and walls, and no fiberglass packing to blow out and replace.

With access to basic metal shop tools and supplies, you can easily make your own cans (mufflers).

Have fun with that. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
