Hey,

I have been noticing that tecate axles are real hard to come by. And there is absolutely no aftermarket for these things. I am working on a Tecate kx450f project and was trying to figure out a way to get a +2 axle. I have read some topics here and everyboby is talking about a custom swingarm. I was think why not a custom Bearing Carrier. My next door neighbor is a machinist. And he comes over to my place every weekend and we have beer and BS about stuff. I have talked to him about 3 wheeler stuff and how there is a market for some of this stuff. He is very interested.

So we are going to work on a custom Carrier (Billet Aluminum probably) that will bolt directley to a stock Tecate swingarm. And I hope to use another axle off a bike that durablue makes and axle for (250r, raptor, 450's, anything). so over the next few months we will be working on machining these part.

I just need info from you guys on if you guys are interested, or if there are problems that you think I might incounter. also how many bearings you guys would like to see these things, 2 or 4.

any feedback would be great

Thanks
Tyler

i never seen a carrier with 4 bearings

most aftermarket carriers use a double row bearing per side and some use tapered bearings but on some bikes you lose some chain ajustment

no matter what axle you go with the chain will need to line up and some swingarms are made to compinsate for this.... like a 250x/300ex

good luck but its easyer to just make a swingarm work with whatever carrier/axle your useing IMO

Well since we are talking bolt on to a oem tecate swingarm. I would suggest a yamaha banshee rear end. Axles are everywhere, and interchange with tri-z's the aftermarket makes billet sprocket and brake hubs. Sprocket choices are endless with this hub pattern, and there's an endless choice of hubs and wheels to choose from with this common bolt pattern. This stuff will be availiable forever. Plus banshee axles are light compared to many oem axles. Not to mention banshee rear rotors are bigger than tecate items. Were talking the whole banshee rear end here, from carrier to hubs. Bearing you ask, i don't have a problem with oem bearings and seals. Readily availiable for simplicity. And on a side note, are we talking 84-85 or 86-87? I've heard bolt pattern for carrier to swingarm is the same? If that's true, it would open up more potential buyers. It's important to remember this won't be an ecentric , 4 bolt setup like stock.

I would be interested in such a product. It would be nice to stop running spacers and just use all the sweet shee axles and hubs. Sounds like a good idea.

I think before you jump on any one axle, I would look at the offset for chain alignment. I believe the banshee carrier Is really wide. This will put the axle way over to one side. I think honda axle's would be a better choice for keeping everything centered under the bike. I know the 250r, and 400ex axles are the same other than the hub splines. Another axle to think about Is the 450r. The 450r sprocket hub Is set very close to the carrier unlike the 250R or 400EX. When I was setting up the rear swingarms and chain's on the 450's I built, I found that all 3 honda axles use the same size ID bearing's. With the honda axle's you have 2 sprocket offset's to work with. The width of the carrier on the 450r Is slightly narrower, but the R & EX axles can be made to fit with just a couple mods.

yea, I was thinking a honda axle and am trying to figure out chain alignment. But its an experiment and its gonna take time. I hope to have results by the end of April at the latest. I am not sure on the carriers if the 84-85 is the same pattern as the 86/87. If this all is a success I will be making one for the 84-85 tecate.
