today I found and baught my dream car! as my name implies I like lincolns, so much in fact that I have lincoln tattooed on me!

for the past 2 1/2 years I have passed by this car thinking man I wish I could afford that, knowing full well if the owner knows how much these cars are worth I wouldnt stand a chance...

well today I bit the bullet I was determined to find out! so I pulled in after aksing who I needed to talk to, I found the shop owner, I asked him (mind you I havnt even looked at the car up close yet) how much, I cringed, he answered, $300 and its yours! I about @&%*!! freaked!, I dug 300 dollars out my wallet and practicaly threw it at the man!

Went to go inspect my new aquisition and found a actually decent car, what appears to be a 1962 possibly a 61 havnt decifered the serial numbers yet. Some one started updating the drivetrain with a middle 70's 460/C6 combo, wich I wont keep in favor of the smaller easier to take care of 5.0 powerplan (not going for speed, this is a true lowrider!) the body is actually solid with solid floors, it has only minor rot, but It does need a trunk lid for it (anyone have one? lol) the interior, is there but bad, the carpet is dead as well..

this has made my day on SO many levels its absurd! I get a hardon just thinking about cruising in this car when finished! I plan on doing this car up right!!

it still sits at its spot untill next week when I can get my car trailer up there to pick it up.

if anyone knows of any parts to this car please tell me!!

thanx guys here are some photos!

Damn your trunk lid IS shot! but i would have to say i have not seen ANY of them around up this way and the ones i DID were almost rotted to the ground. I'm sure a grinder, a welder, sheermetal, and alot of patients i think you could fix (used lightly) that poor lid and still have a half way original lid!

syko, when I was 16 I begged my mom to let me sell my car to pick up one of those...it was all original, except the interior, which had been replaced with white leather...every part of it. black paint, white leather...damn.

like 60 thousand original miles or so...the kicker was it was for 5 grand.

what you have there is a damned good start on one of my dream cars. amazing find man.

That one looks like mine! I have a 58 Continental mark III Convertable 2 door. I think there was 1200 made. I have seen them go for a pretty penny so i am holding on to it. I am restoring it slowly but surely. I bought it at a Storage auction. It had been in that storage since 1970. It had 31000 miles on here. What is funny is, i swapped out the tires, Changed fluids and limped it home. Brakes have been the biggest issue on this thing

thats why cars are great. you can build them anyway that you want!!!! good luck with it. make it a calling card fro your shop!!

I think you should opt for a 351 Windsor EFI and c6 tranny. I'm not sure if a 302 would pull the big sled very well. I bet that car weighs close to 5,000 lbs.

Im hoping that by the end of the summer, it will be in paint and the drivetrain straight, I want to try to make it to the TURKEY ROD RUN in datona during thanksgiving.

my plans are simple, either bag it or juice it either way its not going to be a "hopper" like my other linolns have been, just a way to set the hight from ANT DECAPITATION to NOSEBLEED, fairly quickly.

the one custom coni that I posed with the astro supremes and wide whites is the wheel/tire combo I wanted even before I got this car

as for the drivetrain, the 302 will work fine, if its in a fullsize truck then it can be in a fullsize car, this car will be built to be driven, everywhere! on vacations and trips, to town and back stuff like that.

damn al if you go to turkey rod run,we will have to meet up.I'm 20 min away from the track and go every year.over 5000 cars at the one last year.we always go to the big one at the end of march also.feel free to crash at my pad.

That looks like a nice car and I am sure it has a nice future, a few years back we had one of those at the junkyard I worked at, It basically looked the same, suicide doors and all however it was a hardtop convertible. We tried selling it for awhile and then sadly ended up scrapping it. I hated to see it go to the scrapper but thats what the boss wanted.

SYKO

picked her up today! put some knockoff wires on it so I could get it out of the dirt and load it up, while it was jacked up I got a good look of the underside, wich is very solid, no rust through, full exhuast still intack and no driveshaft wich is another thing im not worried about. Got it rolling and my freind came and helped me out (hes the REPO man) he used his snatch truck to pick it up and push it up onto my trailer with the greatest of ease, the next 2 1/2 hrs was spent trailering this beast back to the shop wich was only 70 miles away, but we had stupid torrential monsoon craazy storm today and it stuck with me all the way there, 45 mph tops....IKK! so here are some pics of today, more will follow durring teardown and work!

did some tear down this weekend, got the trunk off, wich is so fat rusted nothing about it is salvageable, found a bunch of interior trim in the trunk along with the headliner (it was soaked and rotted) a few misc parts and a few years of debri on the bottom. After cleaning out the trunk I let it dry out, there is only some minor rot where the spare tire sat and a few other spots, im happy with the outcome of the trunk interior compared to the lid. As for the interior, I say its a bit better, of course the old carpet was N-A-S-T-Y!! YUK! :smt011 after cleaning everything out I found only 2 rot spots in the passenger frnt floor and one little one in the driverside. I also removed the window trim to inspect the metal there, and to my luck found solid metal! so yay! OH and WAIT! found me a box of clorets most likely from near the year of the car! made my breath the fire!! :dpuke: im hoping this coming sunday I will be doing some metal masaging to it working out the obvious bad spots, or removing that Horrid 460 those retards thought would fit right in  oh OH! and speaking of 460 and retards, they blasted a chunk out of the frame to clear the PS pump!!! so thats another area that I get to fix! bah!!!! any way, I still love my new aquisition and plan on making it tops!

well I had a few extra mins to tinker with my toy today. got the rear parts pulled of and the trunk cleaned up along with the interior floor cleaned up. The extent of the rust damage isnt a worrie to me I plan to cut and patch all the rotted holes I find, then get some POR15 and put a good cover coat over everything in the trunk and in the interior floorboards, of course I will clean the under side and treat it as well. What I did find is at one time this car sufferd a right rear corner collision, wich pulled the bumper slightly out of alignment and someone cut and rewelded another quarter panal on off a white continental, the work is mediocre at best and I plan on cleaning it up and resealing all the welds as well.

more pics of progress

I'll keep my eyes open up here for potential parts cars. I still need to call you so we can talk drivetrain. You know what I think would be badass in there for a drivetrain.....93-> Mark VIII 4.6 DOHC and AOD.....

SYKO

that would be nice, but that obd111 is a pain in the ass to get working in some older cars, plus I got some old school excessories for the sb ford any way I would like to use, I may end up doing a TBI setup on it any way, that way I can run a oldschool air cleaner still.

I've got a TBI setup from an 85 5.0 Auto car. Complete with the old 5.0 HO twin snorkel Air cleaner.....don't think I have the wiring harness and computer anymore thoug. BUT they do make carb manifolds for the 4.6L and even front mount distributors.....there's ways we can make it work......like H&R Block, I've got people!!!!

nothing avail for these cars, all me. the rot is minor in the trunk to repair, I plan on patching the holes then POR15 coating the inside of the trunk and the underside as well, I plan on using alot of POR15 on this car, as I want it to last the rest of my life, however short it may end up. The hood is small and only about 30lbs, the trunk is a good 75 lbs though

im not into the suede paint on these cars, mine will be more long the lines of a 60's style custom, 2 tone with big metal flake and the white walls, the astros make it near a 70s custom, but they just plain out rule in the looks dept, I dont think I can convince my GF to take pics with the car, but im sure she'll get naked soon or later in the back seat....buahahhahaha!

get me some info on this one please! like all about it! thats a 1961, its the only one that was in the pics that I could use parts off of the rest are 65 and newer

I might be interested in the front rear bupers, and the whole grill assy if PA wasnt so far away I might say the whole drivetrain but thats a it much.

I know one thing I need! for sure! the ignition switch in the dash, and if there is a key for it even better! but O well if there isnt, plus the key cyl for the trunk as well if its there.

Very nice looking car. I too love the BIG cars. I purchased a 1965 Oldsmobile back in January of '07. Its all original with just over 28000 miles and papers to prove it. Its the only year they came with the 425 Ultra High Compression big block. Heres some pics of it:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o125/money89tractors/1965%20Oldsmobile%20Starfire/th_S4020865.jpg (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o125/money89tractors/1965%20Oldsmobile%20Starfire/S4020865.jpg)

Now, i don't plan to bag or lower it like you do, but i plan to restore it completely...sooner or later. It runs like brand new and even (after sitting for 30 year with 1/4th tank of gas) the gas tank was rust free. There is about a 1/4" rust gap around the back window and some rust in the passenger quarter panel, but thats it.

get me some info on this one please! like all about it! thats a 1961, its the only one that was in the pics that I could use parts off of the rest are 65 and newer

I might be interested in the front rear bupers, and the whole grill assy if PA wasnt so far away I might say the whole drivetrain but thats a it much.

I know one thing I need! for sure! the ignition switch in the dash, and if there is a key for it even better! but O well if there isnt, plus the key cyl for the trunk as well if its there.

well I have a lull in customer projects this weekend thanx to some custom paint NOT showing up....so...My little cuz helped me get my linc into the shop for some much needed attention! :D

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/100_6364.jpg

first things first....lets take care of that redneck bite mark in my frame....

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/100_6373.jpg

I have a bad habbit of not taking pictures when I need to.... I did smooth out all the edges first.... then came my next problem...someone bogart'd my metal! so I had to peice the patch together, no biggie, it will be just as strong, just not as perfect...but oh well its a driver! 8)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/100_6375.jpg

so next.... onto the ac! and wiring box!! got those ripped out and a good thing to... MAN the inside of the ac box was NASTY! omg like influfreakinenzablackplauqe up in there! ewww city! :dpuke: then I got the elec box off... horry for lincoln enginers!! who decided that putting plug ins on the back of the box instead of having every wire in the whole car made into the fuse panel!! :smt006 Also the ac box is not going back in, going nice smooth firewall right there.....Vintage air or southern air for AC later.

got the front end in poly today, after doing some body work to it, the left fender had a bunch of scrape areas in the metal that I woked out, ending up sand almost most of the filler off, then onto the poly, I put half gallon up front equivalent to about 10 coats for primer other wise. Im done til the next opportunity arises to work on it! 8)

Hey Syko, I was wondering just today if your user name was lincoln related, so I did a search and.......

I'm a HUGE lincoln fan, and partial to the slab sides, 61-65. Hows yer '62 comin? Any updates?

I restored a '65 in 2000, I can post pics if you want to see them. Any way nice ride, I'll be chattin with you soon.

I got lincoln tatoos! I got lincoln on my left arm, and soon to have my whole 62 on my right!

Love lincolns with a passion

the 62 is on bricks, I will work on it next weekend and hopefully finish the body work!

then its onto my new suspension and components, once thats done, then its back to finishing the body work!

throw up some pics of that slab homie!

also here is my Towncar its currently being redone, and is on the backburner for about 2 more years before I jump back into it

you said its a 65? why dosnt it have the chrome tail light guards? still looks good just a bit to high for my tastes though, mine will be fluid adjustable (hydros!) post some pics!

hondawasaki
07-11-2008, 11:41 PM
it does have the chrome light covers, (also note the turn signals in the ft fender)they just didn't show up when I shrunk the pic. I'll post some build pics tomarrow night, I've got chit to do tonight.

Yeah its too high for my taste too. I will eventually put it on bags, I had a pretty strict budget when I built it so i went cheap (stock) on the suspension.

I can also tell you how to spot any year linc from '57 to '69 from a glance. like th differences between a 62 and 63. 62 has the antenna on the driver rear quarter like a 61, and a 63 is on the pass ft fender. the 63 is also about 2 inches longer in the rear door, 64 has flat glass on the side windows and a sharp trim on the rear most edge of the back door glass. 64 and 65 are real close to the same except the ft end styling changes.

LOL I'm a lincoln nerd!

um probably no spark....deedadeee

that apears to be in decent shape, anything past 65 is way easier to build, more parts avail and common parts are used instead of all lincoln speciific parts like the early sixties lincolns. The thing about lincolns... ifyou put 20k into one you can get 20k back out or more, they are worth what ever you do to them. The owner is right about what they can be worth, even custom ones can fetch the same price as restored ones.

wow... bringing this back from the dead. this is the reason why my 500 hasnt been finished:naughty:

ok ive had quite a few people wanting to know whats going on with my 62 well it goes something like this:

it sat..I pounderd.... wtf will I do? new motor? new stearing? new rear end? man hell.....

then something hit me..... new stuff? why not ALL NEW? well...nearly new...ok new enough.

so I started measuring taking notes and doing research finaly I decided on what to do :0

so here is goes im mating the outer hull of the 62 to the inner structure of a 1999 lincoln towncar effectivly making it a new continental. The only thing that will be from 62 will be the outer sheetmetal and glass everything else interior/drivetrain/suspension will be 1999..... :wow:

now heres the fun part Im about a month ahead of what I post as far as pics for this project everything is rolling according to plan so lets start this trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro!

started on finishing up my doors

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00756.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00792.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00793.jpg

SYKO
06-20-2010, 09:28 AM
so while I was working on the doors at the shop I wheeled the old monster out of the shed to the shop

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00739.jpg

then brought my spot weld cutter from the shop so I can take off the front end (remember these cars are UNIBODY even the fenders are welded on)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00752.jpg

then removed the outer fenders then the front clip

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00741.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00743.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00744.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00745.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00750.jpg

:wow:

SYKO
06-20-2010, 09:30 AM
so then I gutted the inside out everything down to the wiring

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00755.jpg

then after I got it all on stands from one end to the other I started my rough cut of the body off the chassis, this would be similiar to a body drop ecept this car is a uni body so I will be effectivly just cutting the middle structure out while the outer structure keeps it rigid ;)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00766.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00769.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00771.jpg

SYKO
06-20-2010, 09:32 AM
then I slowly let the middle down and out

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00773.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00770.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00787.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/p_00786.jpg

now before you say I should have braced it up before cutting, I measured it with my tram guage all over all the time and it hasnt moved out of spec 1mm so im good if it was any other 60s car it would have folded up by now :0

the very slight differences between the two its not quite as bold as you might think. Just alot of patience and a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro ton of measuring and cutting then welding.

heres the donor... everything runs great and works great im saving all the sheetmetal to fix a salvaged towncar afterwards

ok back to my 99 many hours of dismantling it and cutting metal off making sure parts were still usuable later if needed on anything else, all the while taking measurments and going between both cars to make sure I cut enough and not to much off the 99 to make the 62 shell fit Ill let the pics do the esplaining how much material was taken off to work

and he we are working on putting the the halves together, we had to finish up grinding the surfaces on the 99 and trimming some metal out around the A piller and the top of the cowl so the windsheild will sit flush.

all and all we had it up and down about 20 times it took us only about 5 hours to get from two parts to one

here is where we used a porta power to stretch the 62 wider to fit over the top of te 99 inner rocker as it did a .90 out and a .90 up once stretched open we could set it down all the way and when the pressure was released it snapped tight under the edge and fit perfect

well I only have my lunch break and a hour or two after work to do alittle work to this doll im by no means rushing this job but things seem to be pluggin along quite nicely.

here is the rear body panel area the 62 lapped the 99 body panel reinforcement perfectly enought to punch in some spot weld holes and firmly weld up the rear body panel, there is a few welds needed to be completed on it but for the most part its done.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0210.jpg

this is the body panel trimmed over the 99 panel notice the frame reinforcement of the 99 below overything. went ahead and welded it up after spraying weld through primer between the panels.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0211-1.jpg

had a bit of left over primer from a job so I sprayed it to cover it up right now but the back is nearly finished except for some good seam sealer

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0217.jpg

now it was onto the back deck trunk reinforcments I only have a small amount of 16 gauge for the heavier stuff I need for this car

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0237.jpg

solid as ever!

for something crazy here is the planned area were Im putting my hydro pump! this is just moked up of course, im going to make it remote fill and the dumps wont be located on the pump. The reason behind all this is to keep the trunk as open as much as possible and just to be differnt as well, this car isnt going to be doing any hoppin just lift and lay.

also note this isnt the actually pump ill be using either

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0222.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0219.jpg

and there is room for the pump to be there as well I measured it all out once I box the A piller in I will make a mount setup to mount he pump where its removable from behind the wheel house.

I had a hour after work friday and decided to see how bad the front end will have to be modded to make work so I went to town on the front of my car. Now this by no means is nothing more then just a mock up right now I want to get the main body and the suspension doen before I get to the front.

first I had to cut the front cross reinforcement off the 99 frame and notch alittle bit of the frame to make the front of the 62 slide in.,

heat saw at work

now as for weight

when the underbody of the 62 was completly removed I could physicaly pick up the complete shell of it and move it myself (standing inside behind the B pillers- mind you I am also quite big and strong lol) so I estimate the shell od the 62 to be roughtly 300 lbs or just alittle over

now the metal from my 99 was alot heavier then the 62 so when the 62 was put onto the 99 base it didnt even sag the suspension an inch thats why in the pics it looks to be sitting so high the suspension is maxed out upwards!

once complete I plan on weighing the car the way Im figuring it should actually come out lighter then the 99 wich overall is lighter then the 62

I guess ill get some three wing spinners for them or maybe some bullets but ive never seen starwires with bullets so im unsure how it may look, most likely going to run some pinner whites untill I get some fatwalls later when its all finished painted 8)

the section welding of those fender wells is downright ridiculous. This has given me some great ideas...

i would have never thought of puttin a classic body onto a newer car. thats thinking out side the box at its finest. we need more custom builders like you in this world, then we could do away with the cookie cutter customs you see now days.

Awesome build for sure, but why not put the gas port in the trunk to keep the side profile cleaner?

Awesome build for sure, but why not put the gas port in the trunk to keep the side profile cleaner?

beleive me alot of was thought about the gas door location, due the the stock location of the 99 tank, I didnt want to put it in the trunk under any circumstances thoutht about modding the trunk drain pan in the corner and have it sealed from the deck lid but then it would require opening the trunk to add gas and didnt like that either. so I decided to just add it to the side since its square I plan on making the opening around it tight so not to impeed the natural smoothness of the sides, plus the color on the sides is a bit darker then the top so it wont be as noticable.

I appreciate all the good words on this build im slowely progressing on this project and hopefully plan on driving it late november (non painted) and hopefully you guys will see some pics of me cruising in it in next years hot rod tour!

SYKO

no it dosnt lay the body its about 1 3/4 from it wich is fine for me if there is ever a failure in the hydraulics then its at least driveable, when complete it will be only about 1/2 from terra but I also plan on making new lowered metel side skirts and front and rear valances to further lower the body

i allways love a custom, and you really went the right way by installing the body to the modern chassie, very nice work, i spent a year touring the country with the super chevy shows in the late 90`s and it was a blast, did 4 years super truck nationals . i also would love to do the hotrod power tour someday. cant wait to see your finished project, a good friend just did a 59 caddy ragtop with a northstar on 24`s. keep it up and we will be watching you on tv. cattle-dog

just been slowly making all the mounts for the hydraulic pumps and welding in the front pumps, ordered a new spline key for the pump and some cylinder rebuilds for the front I got to go pick up some fittings that I need to use and order hopefully the manifold to controle everything next week

making the mount for pump

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0398.jpg

the pump is bolted in through the door jamb it will be easily accessable, these are the bolts that will hold it I still have to weld sleeves around them yet

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0400.jpg

clearing hole cut for power to the pump motor I will run the wire inside of course there will be a rubber grommet around it

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0401.jpg

the pump head

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0402.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0403.jpg

plenty of pump and manifold space

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0409.jpg

on the driver side is where I want to mount the optima battery in a vertical position there wasnt enough room for it to go in between so I make a indented box so it will fit fine

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0404.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0405.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0411.jpg

still have alot of bracing and welding yet to do on this yet but its moving along

front frame cut out nad 1/4 plates welded in for the front cylinders 6 inch prohoppers

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0391.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/southgacustoms/1962%20lincoln%20continental/IMAG0390.jpg

I may in the meantime just hook up 2 dumps and tee off some lines just to lift until I get a manifold for it

and there ya go.
