I have a shot at a 91 TRX250X that has supposedly a $3K motor in it and needs a countershaft. Can be bought for under a grand. I have that I missed the 87 TRX250R so is this my 2nd shot at a good machine to fix and turn a profit? I'd like to get it back to stock appearing...he said the nerfs and wheels and tires are not on it, so I have to look at it for sure.

I'd say it better be well under a grand if you need to replace a countershaft. This is a fun quad but it is considered really small for todays standards. If you have a lot of work to do you could easily have a hard time making a profit on it. This is one of those cases where if I was the buyer I'd almost like to see the engine in pieces already. Who knows what you'll find in there. I'd price out a complete bottom end on ebay just to be safe.

Does it run? If it runs so all you need is the countershaft and a gasket kit then it may be worth it but not a big profit turner. Spending $3k on the motor could just mean that it was professionally rebuilt years ago and has been beat on.

What do you guys think its worth fixed? I’m thinking maybe $1600 running well with some motor mods but I’m not much of a quad guy.

Around here they are worth about $800 to $1500 depending on condition, I don't think its a big money maker but would make a nice quad for a young one. I'd rather have one where the motor is stock over built anyday for reliability.

Well, if it needs a countershaft, and you're not getting the wheels and tires or the nerfs then no, it is not worth a grand. And you won't turn much of a profit if that is your only motovation for buying this.

Hmm, why's it look so small? my 200 is a heap bigger than that lol, and so is my buddies 250, or is it since it's a 90's model?

It's the same as a 300ex. They are a smaller sport quad.
