Well, after twelve years of competing head-to-head and nearly destroying American open wheel racing in the process, the IRL and Champ Car will be one series for 2008. Champ Car will concede to the IRL, who will gain all of the current Champ Car teams and possibly three race dates which are Long Beach, CA, Surfer's Paradise, Australia, and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I don't know if any of you have watched either series since the split in 96, but I grew up watching Indy cars, and I loved the 500 until 96. After that, it just wasn't the same. Tony George will have his work cut out for him, but I have faith that he can undo what has been done over the last dozen years and restore open wheel racing to its former glory.

One of my favorite Indy 500 moments: Danny Sullivan's 1985 "Spin and Win" incident unfolds in front of Mario Andretti
