If you ran your forks leading edge, then thats why it turns funny. There is no rake built into the 350X tripple clamps.....

Yeah, if your running 350X triples, you want to run leading axle.

I did that swap on my 200X. BIG difference!

what does leading edge mean?

Leading Axle = the axle located in front of the forks.

Trailing Axle = the axle located behind the front forks.

I have heard of this and like the idea. I remember there was a post or two of this swap. I hear it makes a world of difference. I can never find the right posts with the search item on this site:crazy:
Anyways, can someone who has done this give us the proper setup for the swap? Do you go with the whole front end of a 350X and does it matter what year 350x? Or can you use the 200x wheel, hub and brake setup with just the 350x tripples and forks? Whats the best setup. Leading or Trailing Axle? Also what year 200x's can you do this swap with. Thx

You can use your 200x wheel and hub. The steering stops will need changed. I cut the stop off of my head tube and replaced it with one that's more like the ones on a 350x, but you can modify the lower trip to make it work with the 200x frame.

Yes it has a 350x shock, and its an awesome upgrade for a 200x. I really don't want to make any more links though. I have a jig that you could use and I believe I have a few pieces left for making a new one. You live close enough to me that we could hook up and I could give you a good run down of what's involved. I'd do it but I'm trying to devote the little time I have away from work to a project I'm working on. I'm from Warren Ohio probably an hour or so east of you. I'm sure we can work something out. You should start looking for a good 350x shock if your serious about doing the swap. :naughty:

I've sold maybe 10 or so links on this site and haven't seen a pic where someone is actually using one. So, there's got to be a few floating around that didn't get installed. I checked through some of my old PM's and found the names of a few of the guys that bought one. If you want to try to contact them to see they used it I can give you their names and you could try to PM them. maybe if they didn't us it they will sell it to ya.

If you want to try that I will PM you their board names.
Let me know

What bearings did you guys use in the 200X headset? The entire 250R tapered bearing setup??

I know with the 350X you have to bore the lower tripple, then use all the 250R guts but not sure about the 200X swap....

I bolted the trees straight up. They will wedge so use lock tite and get them tight but not too tight they bind. I had to weld new stops onto the frame. As for the swing arm, I had to cut the ears flush with the main beam of the swing arm so it would slide up into the frame. Once I got the swinger mounted I stood the bike up on its rear wheels so I could weld a bracket onto the frame for the dog bone. I used 1/8 strap steel and bent it into a squared "U" shape and it fit perfectly in between the rear motor mounts. I Will post pics if any one else wants to try it.

here are some pics of the bottom bracket. My 110v mig isn't the greatest but it did the job for this bracket. The only thing I forgot to check is the line up of the sprokets. it looks like there may be a little deflection so I may have to build a spacer for the rear sprocket.

Muddy200x

Can you post a pic of the chain on the sprockets from the rear. I'm curious about how their lining up. Or did you already pull the rear sprocket?

did you notice any difference in the way it handles? i like the looks of this setup better

SCEADU

I need to get a carrier in it so I can line up the sprockets. I may have to make a spacer to get it a little closer

bigpimpin
03-26-2008, 12:17 AM
couldn't you just cut off a 250r or newer swingarm where the round metal part holds the carrier? and cutoff the 200x swingarm part with the carrier and weld on the other peice?

SCEADU
03-26-2008, 06:56 AM
I have thought of that but I think the 200x carrier will be too short that the sprocket side would rub on the arm. I have a 350X carrier and it may be an option if I can't get a carrier for an 85.
