I am changing jobs and will lose my company vehicle. I havnt personally owned my own car since 98'. My wife gets a new one every few years but i havnt really paid attention to whats out there. I am looking for something slightly used. Maybe a year old. I want it to be a convertable, get good gas mileage and would really like a rear seat. Today i looked at the 350z ( hated it ), porsche boxter ( hated it ), Saturn Sky ( loved it except for no rear seat) and the Pontiac solitise? ( same as saturn). I am really having trouble finding exactly what i want. I know there is several cars that fits my wants but i am really unsure what is out there. i need suggestions.

mustang convertables have back seats, so do saab's, so do pt hearses, i mean cruisers. you should get a pt cruiser convertable, then you would be really cool.

or you could get a chrystler labaron convertable, jon voights old car like george castanza did.

Chrysler Sebrings have a backseat, and can have a convertable top. My mom has the normal 4d regular top Sebring and she loves it. Gets about 24mpg.

Just my opinion but why would you want a convertable with a back seat? Most of the seats are completly useless and you cant sit in there. There is no leg room, even little kids can have issues. I havent been in many if any 2 door cars that have any kind of leg room. Just my thoughts on that. If i were you i would either get a hard top convertable or the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 convertable. Got good looks and a good car...crappy back seat though

i like to have a back seat to put the car seat in if need be. I went and looked at the mercedes slk320. i fell in love with that cart but the price was a little steep

Ok i see. Yeah slk320 is nice. If the tag is steep just lease it that is unless you will drive too many miles. Most people end up getting rid of their car every few years anyways so that would work. Unless you are the type to get a car and drive it till the wheels fall off, go with the lease.

I think what you want is a Jeep with a soft top.

:beer :beer hell yea.

yet your self a jeep wrangler. plus it will go places a car cant. oooo they are cheaper than a sports car too. as for fuel mileage ....my brother has a 95 jeep yj (wrangler) with a 2.5 liter engine and it got around 20 miles to the gallon or so. dont under estimate the little 2.5 4 cyl. engine either. we use to pull truck out of the mud with it. it had 33 inch tires on it too. anyway yea get your self a jeep.

i have always wanted a jeep. When i first started looking the fuel economy kinda scared me. I am trying to stay in the upper 20's on my gas mileage. But that has always been a consideration

upper 20s with a convertible. hmm....wait, doesn't the new bmw mini come in a convertible now?

excellent parking capabilities, excellent handling, well built, and if you don't get the supercharged edition, great gas mileage. also...pretty damned roomy inside.

The new Eclipses are pretty sharp.. and both the 4 and 6cyl models get decent mileage.
I'm just not sure if they come in convertible.. I have yet to see one.

if you're thinking eclipse...get an oldschool one with the awd...for 5 grand. drop 8k or so in it to make it into a reliable beast...and then have a little fun.

1959 Caddy Eldo rag top.....my dream car, sorry(strictly gangster). I've driven the Sebring...if your over 6' it's tuff to see directly out the windsheild. I had to bend my neck to the side.

So whats the deal? What did you end up getting or are you thinking about getting?

tecat-z

Yes, and the dealers can't give the crossfires away. I know a chrysler salesperson and he said they are stacked up like firewood. Even at the chrysler plant. He said they have been discontinued, but the remaining cars will unfortunately, be availiable for a long time to come. Possibly even 09 and beyond............................... Another big loss for Chrysler!

I saw in the sunday paper the crossfires are 11k off the sticker. I like the looks of them, but not the fact of only being a 2 seater.

i ended up going very modest. I bought a new Altima. Iti s far from what i had in mind. But it gets 31 mpg. the sticker was 27k and i told the salesman if he got it down to 19.5k i would buy it tonight. i really didnt think he could do it but did.

Yes, very far from what you orig wanted. None the less decent looking car, good mpg, and a really nice price.

I'm not a big "car" guy. Matter of fact, I pretty much only drive the work truck

But, man did I sure fall in love when I drove a BMW. That car was just perfect in my hands and handled awesome at 135mph :)

i decided to save a little money and buy the economy car. now i have tons left to build a rock crawler. As soon as i bought it the next morning we went up through tennessee and north carolina through the smokies. the little car handled the mountains very well. i was really impressed. plus it had plenty of room for the kiddos. I even got a speeding ticket in this little rice burner. In arkansas they got me for 96 in a 70. through all the mountains i averaged 30.2 mpg which i cant complain about. i feel i made a good choice. plus my wife was giving me alot of crap about looking at all the two seaters. Everytime she would gripe i would say that two seats is one too many. hahahaha

Well if they are giving them away I'll take two! The economy has been tough for all brands, and many have a large surplus of vehicles. Election years are always slow for car sales, mixed with today's economy no wonder they have a surplus of a few vehicles that most people would see as impractible. I work in the auto industry and I've seen this before.

i had a 99 wrangler. loved it. and like the new look as well. 16mpg though sahara 4x4. chrysler is crap thoughbwhen it comes to detail. my blinkers blinked sometimes and body seams leaked h2o on wet roads. sounds like u decided, but from what your initial post was looking at i would have said a honda s2000.
