Whats different between the 86-87 and 88-89 frames? Seems like allot of parts are the same.
I am not sure of all the differences, but here is what I know.
Where the swinger bolts on is completely different.88-89 had a soild tube swinger at the pivot area.So you have to use a 88=89 frame and swinger together..The 88-89 swingers were aluminum and shorter than the 86-87.The rear motor mount bolts directly to the frame on the 88-89,where the 86 motor had a added bracket that the swinger bolt passed thru the motor.
The 88-89 frames were made stronger, with better gussets.
The 88-89 had a different steering stem, with no headlight mounts. The 86 -87 steering stem had extra mounts on the stem to mount the headlight. If I remember correctly, the rear shock linkage was different too form 86-87 to 88-89,but I dont recall the specifics.
With the exception of the swingers, just about all parts interchange.
EDIT>>>>
The 86-87 also used a different grab bar with farther mount hole spacing. The 88-89 used a grab bar with closer hole spacing.
