I asked him a few questions before bidding. Funny he didn't post mine at the bottom. I think the reserve will most likely be a bit high, like his past bikes. He told me the reserve on the Z50s was set at 89K a few months back. This 250R is at least worth 10k in my book. It's not as perfect as the one 88' R that sold for 12,500 about 2 years ago. It sure is one sweet piece though. What do you all think it's worth? I guess we will see?? -Andy Seibel

I'm editing myself here because I've been informed that this actually is the very bike that sold for $12,500 a couple years back. The frame and a-arms have been repainted as they were when it was restored about 3years ago. Sorry for my confusion!

Id say its to kill temptation!

Looking at those pics I think about how nice it would be to rip a BRAND NEW 250r.

If I bought it I wouldnt ride it, but then again I would not buy that without having a limitless bank acount.

I love the fact this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-Honda-TRX250r-250r-Show-Bike_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6724QQihZ006QQitem Z160236721994QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW is much nicer, more rare and has a buy it now much cheaper the the "reserve not met on this one" . It obvious this getnosty on this and past auctions has a team of bidders working his items for him. Anyone who would have bid over 8k on the 88 would have hit the BIN on this 89 in my opinion.

I agree with you there.

Anyone bidding this bike up to 10 grand, would have hit the 8 grand bin on the other by now............

The 88 is a better resto job than the other 89 with the BIN, and that year seems to be more popular. I believe the reserve here on this 88 is 15k. I did find out that this 88 is the very bike that sold for 12,500 buy it now a few years ago. It was then not paid in full and is now being relisted. Don't quote me here I'm just trying to remember the story I was told by the builder.

A few years ago everything was going for crazy money....every nice 350x went for over 6000.00...the economy is in the crapper...The game has changed to a buyers market for even for ATVs. Just look at his views..... 3950 views as of today. I got over 10,000 hits during the boom time when I listed my 200x. All prices have dropped except for the the prices on his auctions.....Beautiful machine ...no doubt....but there are others out there. My 89 to 88 comparison just tells me his auctions are suspect.

Prices have definitly fallen hard because of the economy and the reality of $4 gas, with the prospect of it going higher. When I would list a 250R I would get at least 10-15 questions a day with multiple offers that I would have accepted. I just listed an 85 about 2 weeks ago, a near mint original, and I cancelled the auction due to a serious lack of interest.
Defintily a buyers market. No more easy money, no cash out home refi's are hurting us all, but maybe it will help cool things off a little and balance the economy again. Oil is killing us!!!!

I got to thinking about this post and Buster I AGREE with you:crazy:

factory bikes were not powder coated and once you start that you get into the custom category for anyone looking for OEM restored bikes.

So while i dont think the other bike is worth that much i do see your point :beer

No way! I'm k10seibel on ebay and don't believe in any helper games! Please don't confuse my name with any of the bad apples out there!! I know My last auction on the 2 1986 TRX 250Rs was out there on BIN price ,but I had a reasonable reserve for two mint bikes with shipping. Look at my outcome, a mere 12k. Oh well! -Andy Seibel

well, consider this. a new quad will cost you 6000+, especially for a fast sport quad.
now, you have up for grabs a rare MINT quad that even after all these years, is still a very desirable quad. so for something that is so sought after, and basically brand new, is a few thousand more than a new, readily available quad really that preposterous?

I am with you on that way of thinking and its not preposterous.....I just dont beleive his auctions...nothing personal against him. I am a serious collector who talks with many of the other " serious" private collectors and we all agree. He knows what he wants for it. Could he get that kind of money from someone....absolutely....TRUE ebay bidders fighting it out neck and neck driving the price up...hmmmm. Another scenario is on these mysteriously high reserve auctions people know there crazy bids wont meet the reserve so they are playing to see what the reserve is with no intent to ever buy.

The thing is most people are like me. I make decent money and have good credit, but I don't have 10 grand laying around for a 80's 3 wheeler or 4 wheeler. I have more important things to spend my savings on like my family's emergency's. But, I could walk into a Honda dealership right now and sign my name on a new quad, motorcycle and jetski and walk out with all three.
Who is going to finance a 1988 4 wheeler? No bank will. You have to have fat cash to BLOW to buy these bikes.

Those are some very nice machines, and the people buying them obviously aren't planning to finance them or any other toy purchase. This kind of stuff is for the guy like me who wants to say there's a 250R in the garage but instead of a mid 90's chebby he's driving a 75K plus car to work...

Go to the bottom of this page.. 89 250r that is in showroom condition for $6200. This machine would sell on ebay I bet.

also check out the crf450r for a totally reasonable $21,000!

that crf450r hybrid has been on his site for ATLEAST 4 years. That bike was built for dirtwheels, they abused on it some and it went for sale not too long after. Really if you think about, $21,000 isn't too far off. It cost the person who built mine, almost $27,000. I bought it for $9,000 almost 1 1/2 later. I spent almost $20,000 building a 250r, keep in mind, still the stock frame, swinger and other stuff.
