300 Fourtrax tank

I'm about to Red Kote a gas tank on a 97 300 Fourtrax. I unscrewed the petcock valve and removed it. How do I get the petcock filter out of the tank? Do I push it through or pull it out? I need it in good shape to re-use.

i pull them out....if its off and floating around in the tank just dump it out of the gas cap hole.

they go in the petcock hole so it should come out that way
