I have a new respect for harescramble racers after watching today's SORCS race at Broad River ATV Park in Elberton GA. After the race was over I ran the coarse on my Trx 250R. The fast lap time I think was around 28 mins for an 8 mile loop for the pro riders. To me that sounded slow until I was on the track and got educated. I have seen deer trails that look like 6 lane hiways compared to this. A few spots I had to hold my breath wondering if I was going to squeze through. Just when I thought I had enough room to wind her out I would have both front and rear binders locked up to make the next turn. Now I know why so many machines had branches hanging off of them. I saw a couple of opportunities to get airborn and had to back out of it at the last second because the crest of the rise would reveal yet another turn. The evedence was left on a few trees as to what happens when you don't have your head in the game. I guess this is why every machine had bark busters installed on them. I have no idea how these guys pass one another except for some side trails that were blazed out of desperation. I checked the clock on my phone when I left camp and checked it again when I got back and my time was about 38 mins. I was worn out after 1 lap and if I was in the race would have had 3 more to go. I may try to race in the fall event in the VET class but i need to get inot better shape. I recomend anyone that can appreciate watching skilled riders to go to one of these events.
