With the rise in people wanting quads and utvs, brings more technology to the classes. There is motocross racing for the quads in the 450 class quads and of course the 250 class also. There is the arena racing for the utility quads that fly through 2-3ft rocks, mud, water, log jumps, and etc. The market is growing and the manufacturers have stepped it up in 09 to meet the demand. I have posted lots of 09 quads and utvs on my news page, check out the whole page by clicking the link below. The cool thing is the Thundercat 1000 motor made its way to the utv market and the sidexside market will never be the same. link below

Yeah, the popularity is sky rocketing almost as fast as the prices! I was think about buying a side x side in about 3-4 years after I get some other stuff paid off, but I can't even imagine the prices then! It will be cheaper to find a 6-8 year old Toyota 4x4 and use it for a side x side, hehe.

I read through the entire article, it must be old. They made a big deal out of the kawi being the only race quad with reverse. Several have it honda 450er, ktm, Polaris 450mxr.

It was funny how that Bravo's speedo registered 120! LOL

Kilborg

maybe the 09 450er...my 07 450er is just a 5 speed and its the same as the 08 model. rumour has it the 09 is gonna be an all new machine though i havent seen any evidence of this.

but yeah, quads and utv's are getting huge....and land use issues just keep increasing

No, the article is not old. KTM does not have a reverse on their race quad-link to KTM specs below. The Honda TRX 450r doen't have reverse either-link to specs below. Polaris 450 & 525 Outlaw DO have reverse, but I really haven't classified them as a pure race quad. The Suzuki Quadracer 450 doesn't have reverse either-link to specs below. Kawasaki is the only race quad with reverse right now, but Honda has not gave us the 09 TRX 450R specs yet and it could have reverse. TravEX thanks for looking at the site and it is funny that the Bravo has 120 on the speedo, but Bravo builds cars and trucks and they robbed parts for their car division to build the sidexsides cheap. I like KMD and few others too, they have 4spd trans w/ manual clutches like a truck.

I figured something like that was the reason. I like the auto like dash board. Good looking machines.

That 250cc Predator, I forgot the maker. Mean looking quad for just a 250cc!

Why is the 450 polaris not considered a race quad?

Kilborg
07-07-2008, 12:02 AM
How is the 450 and 525 polaris not considered a race machine? Get with the times...the predator 500 showed that polaris was capable of much more then a stripped down utility (ala scrambler).

The japs are gonna have to start actually throwing some suspension and no detuning the piss outta their motors to meet emissions and actually build racequads...the "exotic" (anything not big 4) machines are proving that no matter their successes/failtures. Look at cdale/atk, can-am, polaris, can-am... The quad market is gonna get even hotter in the next few years.

Might cost us 10-12k, but we may actually have access to factory quads capable of racing at the higher levels right from the factory in the next few years if machines like the the 450mxr keep coming out.

I didn't want to offend anyone, that was just my opinion. Polaris has done a great job building better quads each year and your right, they do have race quads. I have added a whole new load of pics and info on my news page, so check out the whole page and see all the 09 line-ups added today! Link below.

No need to waste my time reading someones biased opinions of quads. You talk great about them piles of junk that are coming from China but nothing good about Polaris. I guess you haven't read anything about Polaris kicking but in atv racing scene this year.

I talk positive about ALL manufacturers! I did not say anything negative about Polaris and they build great quads and sidexsides. My opinion about their race quads did not take anything away from the quality of their equipment. Polaris has been doing well in racing and they will continue to get better also. I can tell you that as soon as Polaris gives me the 09 line-up, I will be doing a complete run-down of it on my news page asap. I like Polaris and it will get equal time on my news page, just like Honda, husqvarna, Husaberg, Can-am, etc., others that I am waiting to post their 09 line-ups asap on my news page!!!

I love the new thundercat. That is made in america pure power. Even though the canned ham is right there with them. Have you heard of the 700 h1 conversion for the thundercat? You take the h1 cylinders and head. It is a direct bolt up and gives you 1400cc.... I really have been considering getting rid of my cat and getting a sidexside.

there were some pretty serious and well founded rumours floating around about a quadracer 250 thumper...supposedly it was to be a 09 or 2010 model but who knows.

Kilborg is right about the Suzuki 250 quadracer, there is one in the works. The AMA said upfront if the AMA ATV Pro Motocross series did well that there would be a 250 class to follow. I believe that all manufacturers are working on a 250 race class quad now. The closest quad to the 250 race quad is the super light Yamaha Raptor 250, but the real race quads will hit the market as soon as the AMA makes the 250 class or if someone releases one early, then we know for sure that the 250 class will happen. I was hoping that the 250 class would start in 09.

The KTM's have reverse. So do the Polaris' because they use the same engine.

I just posted the 09 Honda atv line-up including the sport and utility quads. Honda rebadged the sport quads to the X, it does bring back some old times in seeing a 250X in the Honda line-up again. Lots of pics and info on the news page and the all new CRF 450R on the page 2 news also, links below.

Speaking of Quads taking control, look at the 09 Kawasaki Teryx. Kawasaki did not sit on their hands on the Teryx in 09, all the new items are on the news page. I just posted a lot of new 09 models pics and info. links below.

Really like the site actually, lots of good pictures on it, but why the duals on the cr250f if its only single cylinder ?

Cody2, thanks for the support of my powersports site. I try to add new pics daily and keep the content fresh. Please check back every so often, I update the site 2-3 times a week or more. I like feedback and keep it coming. Now for your question, Honda says the duals keep the weight equal on both sides of the bike and makes it handle better, more neutral flyer, and looks tough. I have never ridden the 250cc stroker, but I have read in dirtbike mags that it does help weight distribution. The 250 strokers are not the old powerless pingers, these bikes are fast and powerful and the AMA is letting the 250 pingers race against them in the lites class. Link below.

I still would like for them to bring back trikes. Other then quads being the "big thing". It would be cool if you could get the option to buy one. A 250 quad class is going to seem under powered for most tracks. You still can not do nearly as much on a quad as you can on a bike. But who knows. I haven't really seen that many good Atv riders in florida at the tracks i go to. Most of them are a B class level compared to bikes. I think it would be a advance in ATV racing for sure, but i'm curious as to how the bikes will do out on the motocross track. Another big thing would be getting people to ride them. it is going to be at least 1 year to 2 before they start be coming something.
