Now iīm building a monster!
Had plans about putting 350 banshee engine in my tri-z chassis, until I came up with this:
A Ohlins 360 big bore kit (Swedish factory racing!!):naughty:

Will post more during the build!!

Ohlins made a YZ 360 big bore top end?

Yes!
But most of the kits went to Yamaha racing teams around the world, so they are very rare.....
I was lucky to find a kit, with only 20 hours on it so it runs perfectly!!

sounds like a bottom-end problem maker :O

Yes, itīs a later model bottom end, so it dosenīt fit right in...........
But after I mill some bracket, and manufacture a spacer for the front sprocket, it should work just fine:w00t:

I have a custome biult 370 top end and I have the same worries.

I would like to see how it does over time once everything is installed.

That is pretty sweet.
Is that a 86 Yz bottom end? Or newer?

There are 3 kits being made right now for Tri-Z 350 stroker motors.

If they actually come full circle, they are going to be the cats ass.
Some massive Jug work going on with them. They wont even look like a Z jug!

Looks to be a newer bike bottom end. The mag cover is entirely different. I seem to remember that Noleen made a 360 kit for the yz 250. But... i think it was sometime in 88-89. So those kits would do 'us' no good. That ohlins cylinder looks tall for some reason. And i have to wonder if our "fragile" 86 6 speed bikes could handle big power for an extended time? The gear size is so small. I would think a 85 trans would be the better choice for durability.

Now itīs on!!
Iīve taken the engine apart and have replaced all bearings, seals and gaskets with new ones..
I have also rebalanced the crank.
Hade to make a little connection in the cylinder portside for the vauumhose (fuelpump)
Next step is to put the machine in the chassis, and work out some new motormount brackets.........

Will post more when, itīs updated:cool:

So now Iīm almost finished
The powerplant is installed, and Iīve made a custom exhaust..
Did the first testdrive, about ten min. ago, and I`m scared!!!!
There is alot of bottom power in this machine, and now I think that a swing-arm extension would be the way to go.....
Despite going from 13 to 16 on the front sprocket, it wheelies on all gears all the time!!!!
Going for a real testrun this weekend, and maybe I can get some video to post..
Thatīs it for now:TrikesOwn

This is one cool thread. :Bounce I'd be intrested to know what our resident old school yami racer (brett driscoll) knows anything about this setup. Maybe post this link in his sticky thread to see if you can find out any more info on it. very cool indeed.

Thanks guys for the positive feedback!!
Iīm going for a testrun this weekend, so iīl give you a full ride report after that..
But after my small test on monday, Iīm pretty shure that it will smoke all my freinds rides:naughty:
And by the way since I donīt dragrace, if I find the motor to be to powerfull for my application, it may be up for sale!!!

too powerful for my application,

no such thing as too much power.
better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

So I took my beast out for a ride this weekend, and damn itīs fast!!
I smoked emīall:naughty:
The only problem I had was that when the engine got really hot, the clutch stopped working, and I could'nt dissengage it......
I know my freind had the same problem with his tecate, but I have never experienced that on my Tri-z!!
Anybody got any ideas why??

clutch plates sicking together is why it doesnt disengage most likely.
not sure how to remedy it though.

Have a feeling that's what's happening, and then it must be the oil that does'nt cope with the temperature...
I'm running on "Motul transoil expert", maybe there's a better one:wondering
