the gears are striped and i cant get the screws out and my dad wants me to throw away the engine cuz he says its no good i found it in the trash the bike

AND ITS NOT A CR 80 OR YZ 80 engine just so you know its the most tractor like 2 stroke they ever made

I know what you mean by tractor like, i have a 78 kawi 100 like that, but its still much better than the briggs. Rebuild the engine man parts are pretty cheap for those old air cooled 2 strokers. Ill tell ya right now it will be the same if not easier to rebuild the stock engine than put in a junk briggs that will only get you going 10 mph...

Buy the engine on ebay and fix it up. briggs wont compare to the 80 2 stroke

a 3.5 hp briggs would be a waste of time. you would need atleast and 8 or 10 hp to get any enjoyment out of it.

fix that 80 engine. or buy a runner off ebay.

i would need to get a new carb all new gears a new throttle cable a new oil pump thing that shoots oil into the fuel alot of new stuff this is the

no budget build i would just rather go out and buy a new bike

i m not going to use this in the dirt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCcEBklmHrg 2.5 hp honda on a bicycle

he got it up to 32 mph

i will just get a clutch with the biggest sprocket i can find

Dude I don't know where you live in Florida but I can almost guarantee if the cops even remotely see you on the road with that they're gonna fine the daylights out of you or confiscate the bike.

Cool to see a gt 80
I was one of the few people in sweden to own one!
Anyway, I toasted my tranny as well, and it was the same as an equal dt 50mx. so I do'nt think it would be to hard or even that expensive to fix it up....
Don't know how it is in the US, but in Sweden there's lots and lots of old 50mxs, so go and fix that old engine pronto!!

COOL - memories are coming back - I had that same bike as a kid. Got it for my 8th birthday. I ended up shearing the flywheel key doing clutch drops on pavement. I liked that bike and remember 1 thing about it. It was always a DOG - little power - no 2 stroke hit - until it was about out of gas. When she starved for gas and got lean - it ran like a CR 80!!! If I knew then what I know now - a lean main jet would make it much more peppy!

Get the trans parts, ditch the oil pump..run premix, I have the same bike and it is fun to drive around on and hit some small jumps. These bikes can do roughly 70km/hr. Parts are easy to come by for these bikes just key in (yamaha..mx80 or gt80 or enduro80) on ebay.

honestly a 3.5hp engine would be a joke... it would be like having a XR50 with a rev limiter that was stuck in one gear.... do any of your engines even have a horizontal crankshaft? If you already had all the needed tools, skills, parts, a 5hp or larger engine, and absolutely nothing better to do, and didnt care much about the end results then I would say go for it...

EDIT: A honda ohv engine would be much better choice... an upright engine will probably drag on the ground before it fits in that bike...

if I may, a briggs or similar type engine will only rev up to about 4000rpm if your lucky. Better of doing a rebuild. But if you still want to replace it, check these guys out, prices are fair
