Just yesturday my laptop (HP dv8000) started acting up, not bad just a bit.

this is what its doing.

when any video is running (youtube or even like advertisements, on tops of pages) they skip almost like a cd would skip sound.

all programs and internet sites are skipping, so it leads me to beleive its my comp.

all my programs work still, theres nothing clogging up anything I have %60 free space in my hard drive no virus's detected so what gives.

it takes a bit of extra time to load certain programs becouse od the skip, even the start up takes longer.

BUT I can load a dvd and my windows media player will play it flawlessly, but then load bezweld delux (allready in computer) and it skips away?

its only slightly bothersom I would like to fix it myself, I have symetec PC anywhere if anyone wants to remotely acess my comp to help me out (of course I will be here making sure you dont take my porn!)

thanx~!

sounds like somethign is hung using a bunch of processing power. do ctrl alt delete to bring up the process explorer, hunt downthe one that is using the most CPU usage or spikes in line with the skips and stutters your experiencing, and kill it.

system idle process cpu stays around 97-99 only 28 memory though

the performance part. the cpu usage is 0%-2% right now, the graph shows almost a little heartbeat lol

thanx egor but I dont want to buy anything right now.

lmao egor hahahaha

id say look at how many processes are running...i try to keep that number down around 30 when the comp starts up.

What did you do before it started skipping? If you download a vid then play in, does it skip? Or does just youtube and such skip?

I could help ya out. I do remote support all the time. (I repair pc's for a living) If you want to do that PM me.

If you tryed checking the task manager for a process that is running high when the problem is not occuring then your results are going to be inacurate. Also just because the anti-virus does not detect a virus does not mean one is not there. They can only detect viruses when their detected and submitted to the AV company. Then the company create a definition for the virus and then if you have that virus it finds it. Unless the virus has changed it signature or made a new variant.

1. Open task manager
2. Open Youtube and view a fairly long video. Maybe 4 to 5 minutes.
3. Click on task manger and look to see what program is running highest. (post the results here)

In the mean time to help figure your issues out (computer related  get that way to many times a day) try running Hijack This! (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis) and post the results from the scan. Then we can really check in to it.

Oh do you run: Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) or Ad-Ware (lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) ??

My computer was doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I called comcast and they just had me go to "tools" then "internet options", then "delete cookies" and finally, "delete files". Cleared it up right quick and I was back to watching porn- er, U tube...

ok so I got lost trying to figure out how to do anything...

the skipping isnt just videos, thats where its most noticable its on ALL programs....say for instance you click on something with the mouse... well even the litttle chime sound will skip some!

no videos or movies downloaded!!

all cookies and temp files are dumped near daily!

if I amas a certian number of pics I put them on a disc and erase all that from my comp...

my anti virus expired last month and forgot to update it... oops...

all that adware crap I dont really understand... I cant afford to loose the programs in my comp as they are my job (ultramate, condon loss, capture, valumate etc etc....)

pm me....:welcome:

I would suspect some kind of trojan, but I don't see anything in your hijack this log.
Could be a hard drive problem.
Could be video issue. I'm guessing you have an ati radeon 200m in that laptop, but i don't know for sure. Lots of people complaining about similar issues but no solutions. Might check for a bios update or an updated driver for your video card, if you haven't already.
Definitely get some av protection now!!
I use the free version of AVG and it seems to do ok.

I was thinking along the same lines as cybrman. Possibly a hard drive or memory error causing it to twitch. When you're loading programs, if a block of data gets lost coming off the drive, or the disk read is somehow interrupted, you'll see behavior like that. With the streaming videos, your application may be trying to buffer those to disk and the same thing could happen. See if you have any error or event logs that look interesting. Also, you should be able to find some free diagnostic utilities that can troubleshoot some hardware issues (especially with memory).

This would be so much easier for me if you were on unix. :P

Trailrider - post up what you find - I am interested to know the result. My guess is virus due to 1 month without AV protection.

Alan - get that AVG Free program on there ASAP. I have been using it on all of our work computers for 5 years now with great results!

I got the OK from syko to post what was wrong. He has many spyware objects in his system. Also he had the Antivirus 2009 spyware/malware installed. This ia a new variant of the Antivirus 2008. This is a fake av that throws fake warning messages etc to the screen. Also screws around with security center http://www.enigmasoftware.com/spyware_images/antivirus2009_pic1.png and reeks havok on the systems performance. I was never able to make a remote session with him due to his router. I did not feel safe having him add ports and such to his router without being physically present to fix if somehting went up the creek. He would possibly loose all Internet activities. I tryed setting up a remote session with himt o connect to me but his system could not make the connection. I think this was due to the Antivirus 2009. I am going to setup a web based remote session with him friday and get the final tweaks done to finish it. I will post the full results when his system is a screamer again.

EDIT
Oh and for those saying to themeselves right now "There are removal instructions everywhere for it.". He does not feel comfortable doing the needed tasks on his own. Which in techs worls can sometimes be a good thing considering is includes deleting registry keys etc..

Oh man - those antivirus 2008 and 2009 can really run a muck - I have seen first hand the damage done by these - they are Tojan Horses at their very best - unsuspecting people beware. These are designed to fool you big time. They are very hard to get rid of as well - by design!!!!!!
