Iam currently selling my chinese POS dual sport bike and using the funds to purchase dads XL250 off him. The plan is for me to get tail light and indicators and wire them all up as at the moment its used just for off road. Would I need a battery to run the indicators/tail light or can they all just run off the mag. I know that XLs come stock with batteries and that the head light can run off the mag can the indicators do this too?The indicators on my chinese bike can run off the mag but my mate did a similar conversion on his yamaha XT and got a new battery for it. If all goes to plan before the start of 2009 I will have a street legal XL250.

An XL250 is supposed to be street legal so you shouldn't have a problem, just buy the parts you need on ebay or what ever. And yes you will need a battery. I have an XL500 that I used to have license on. It has all the turn signals etc. And I had to get a battery for it all to work. I still have it but no license on it and the battery is dead. The mag will run the head light but doesn't have enough power to to run the turn signals or anything else really. You will need a battery.
