The 88-89's are the best lookin TRX250R made IMO, very sharp looking.

Well,not a second gen TRX.And these are from a year ago.But a R is a R.
Honestly,I like the light on the bars. For night riding, you can turn the steering to look down a trail, and for racing,It can be removed fast so it doesnt get damaged.
I also prefer the steel longer swinger over the 88-89 aluminum swingers.

Ya, i know it's big. Just working with what i was given.:naughty:

King of big signatures that is.

The 86 is my second choice, but it would have to have red 88 plastic and the 88 motor, but still retain the gold swingarm and gold rims.

Well it is a nice trike,if it was a pile,I would have deleted the pic from PB.

I cant recall, riding a 89 motor, but chances of getting a stock motor anymore will be hard. Both engines can be modded to run the same.
My 86 is Fast and it is stock bore now no porting, with V-force 2's and a PT type 6 pipe.I actually dont know why it runs so good.

This was my friends 89
I know you like the stocker type machines, but check this out....

89 LSR chassis and swinger
Elka 0 preloads all the way around
Trinity ported rebuilt 265cc (30 hours on it)
Pwk38 mil carb
Lrd Adjustable pipe
Durablue plus 4 axle
1 extra set of Razr trail tires on Douglas 190's all (brand new)
A box of extra parts
LRD steering stem
+2+1 A-arms
1 extra set of plastic.....
This thing ran.......Destroyed many built Shee's in drags and was a dream to ride on the MX tracks.

He sold it last year with all that stuff,For...........

If I ever was to buy one of those 4 wheeled things for myself. One of these would be at the top of the list.

I hear its pretty hard to find one thats still in stock trim. Either way it's probably one of the best quads ever made.

here is a pics of my 86 prp framed trx250r and my half a 250r quad. i have some pics saved from smith road race with the OTC but theres the stupid size limit on the site for pictures.

everything is aftermarket minus the motor related stuff and brakes parts. the frame is the very 1st Porter Race Products frame he biult for testing in 2000 to figure out how he wants to biuld the regular ones he makes. it has a 89 style and lenght HRE swingarm you get better acceleration out of corners with the shorter 89 swingarm

EDOG-------- the plastic is discontinued for the 88-89 trx250r's. since people raced them for so long they ran out of parts years ago.

The pipe is a FMF SST. The silencer is a "old school" answer. I want to get a lil quieter one in the spring. The engine is stock with Vforce reeds. Works shocks on the front reworked stock one on the rear. I am headed to the trails today and will get ya some more pics of it later. I found this one on Ebay this spring in Ebensburgh, PA. Emailed the guy and sent my brother down to pick it up for $2500. A few weeks later met my dad half way and brought it back to Atlanta.

All the ones I have seen are painted black blocks and Natural alluminum on the cylinder and head. When I tear mine down I am either going to paint it gun metal grey or polish it up a lil. Not to your standards. Jus a "LIL" I also want to paint the a-arms and push bar gun metal grey.

If you get one, the best upgrades that I have done for the money is the V-froce Reeds and 38mm Airstrykker. THe FMF pipe gave me good gains as well but I think Mosh would chime in here and tell you to go PTR for the best all around pipe. He has more experience so he would know. I can't tell you how much different the Works shocks have made because the stockers were worn out when I got the machine. I can tell you they are %100 better than worn out stockers tho ;}. I weigh in at 225 so I had the rear shock redone to a 210 rider and it works real well for me. the lil bumps are non existent and the big jumps botoom out jus a lil every now and again. As my confidence builds I may need to rethink the shocks. I love the stock tires. They work well for me. I like to be loose to and right now at %50 tread I think they are great. I just put a brand new set on my "Z" and they get a lil too much grab.

what brand name is the aftermarket plastic on your 88250r? it looks real close to the original.

those front will work better if you call Works and order the steel braided hoses and use the bottles from a 250r or 350x rear shock. thats what Works and PEP use for bottles if you get the adjustable ones.

EDOG for the best all around pipe you want either a paul turner mid range(like he said) or LRD mid range adjustable pipe. thats what i have on my 86 trx.. those 2 pipes are what all the pros used back in the 250r hayday so that has to tell you what ones are good. i had a bill's pipe and the LRD made a big difference over it.

Mosh

The OEM plastics are discontinued. But,Sometimes they show up NOS on the Bay if you want to spend around 1 grand for NOS plastic.

The best Pipes for the R are in no order

LRD adjustable
Sparks
ESR (Low to mid range pipe)
And the Paul turner type 6 if you want some good low end and mid hit.

All other pipes, make the R weak in the bottom end,but really build on the top.

I have ridden with FMF all models,LRD and the Paul turner type 6 my current set-up.
For trail riding, the PT pipe wins hands down.
I have not ran a ESR,but a few die hard R guys say the TRX 5 pipe is the shiznit too.
I heard A sparks motor set-up by him with his pipe was the dominate set-up.
A lot of people have said that about Sparks.

I will just add, that I traded my 96 Shee, which was just awesome for what I had it built for, for my R.
I love they way the R feels/handles,but it needs just a little more sack,to be perfect.
I plan on attacking that issue this spring......Cough Cough...Mr Hall.....

Here ya go edog. I've got one of every year. The last picture is of an '89 and an '87 I'm currently restoring. The '87 is next to the '89 in the background, but wearing '86 decals, as not to be confused. The "Fourtrax" logo should be on the seat, and not on the front fender decals for the '87 model year.
