I called about 1/2 hour ago. Said it runs good. looks like it needs some mechanical work but mechanically fine. 300 bucks he wants for it. Hopefully i'll look at it before supper and may have it tonight. If its as mechanically sound as he says i'll have an Elan

I went and looked at but couldnt se underneth because he had no lights in the shed so I'm going down tommrow after school. From what i seen its in good shape just a few cracks in the hood. (Got a good hood here from a freinds old machine). So If the skidoo looks as good as it seems tommrow in the daylight its mine.

The 250 elan, that was the one lunger(single cylinder),was'nt it? If so I had one back in the late 80's.Back then I was into sled's like i'm into trike's nowday's, I had 25-30 sled's at the time, and that elan was one of the most dependable machine's that I had.I picked that one up at a farm auction for 30 dollar's if I remember rite.AHHHH the memories..

I bought it yesterday and it runs great. Needs nothing mechanical wise. The only thing that was bad was the hood......so on the way home stoped into my buddies house and bought a perfect hood off him. Also got a full wiring harness handle bars and steering rack plus another muffler because he didnt want it so he through it in. Oh and i got the oragne clutch covers to replace my black scrapped up iones..Just gonna make it look alot cleaner underneath the hood.. Other than that is a little paint on the running board and a small rip in the seat . This is mainly gonna be beating off trail for fun so that doesnt matter much. Oh and it got a kimpex rack that holds a big jerry can thats nice.I got some pics on the camera but it died while i was putting them on the comp so later when the batteries charge i'll upload some pics.

Oh sandpuppi101 . This one is a single but there were twin 250 that were 19hp. They were know for vibrating apart .

There was also a 294ss twin cyclinder. I'm surprised the twins were known for viberating apart, usually twins run smoother, now a single cyclinder 250 at idle usually moves about a inch at the head from how hard it fires. I'd say most common problems with them are rusted tunnel under the seat, needle in carb sticks in the seat after it sits all summer long, so gotta take apart carb to free it up, recoils can be a pain, and mufflers can crack depending how much use they've got. Wish they had about a 1 1/4 track and 60 horse.

I've read that the twins needed more matience i the long run compared to the singles because of the vibrating issue. I'v know a coupleof people who had them that said the same thing. Lucikly this one isnt rusted out. I have seen alot like that but most of them i've seen have sat outside since new. The muffler was bad but picked one up on the wayt home from buying the skidoo.

Well sice the last time I postd We've had snow and I've got alot of time on the skidoo. This litle machine far excedded my expectations for relibality and its ability to go anywhere. As of now I'm going to pick up a Moto-Ski spirit on Saturday that looks like crap but is very solid.Hopefully gonna dump a 377 into before winters end. Believe it or not today was the first pictures I've had taken of my skidooThe one wth the skidoo logo is my buddies and the one awaiting stickers is mine.

Very nice rig. I want one of those for coyote hunting over here on the East Coast.

They go everywhere I've heard. We had one when I was very young.

Yeah. I Have had a hard time getting it stuck besides on ice. I highly doubt I'm ever gonna let mine go because many around are rotted out behind the motor along with everywhere else. Mine is all new metal about 2 years ago from the motor mounts back. The older man whom I bought it off had it brought to a machine shop to make the new chasis..very proffesinally done and alot stronger..thicker metal.

yeah. #00 would be a deal for that one. Most mechancally sound elans but ahve a cracked hood or slight cosmetic dmage sell for about 300-350. I have seen mint ones sell for 800 here and even rotted ones for 50. Around my general area there very popular

Those are solid old sleds. Is it the leaf speing model or a-arm model. I ahd a 503 skandic which was basically the same as the 377 safari lt chasis. I was a tank but rode decent. I may pc a 377 to put in my Elan the fall when shes gets a resto mod.

Nice sled man! I love the 250 Elans, sure your not going to do 100 miles on hour on them but they turn on a dime, start in any weather, are extremely reliable and they're easy to pick up and turn around. We have a 1971 thats in pretty nice shape, used to be cool when we had our 1972 TNT 640 and had them both running, looked like a blast from the past!:w00t: The tnt is gone but the Elan will be here forever, awesome sleds

Sooo... I went to look at an Elan but when i got there It turned out to be an 1981 Moto-ski spirit which is basically the same sled. I was looking for a chasis and ended up with a full roller, complete except the motor and seat. There are a few small rust spot inder the rear seat aarea which are an east fix. and a couple minor spots under the gas tank. I'll try to get some pics up. Also anyone post up their picks of ther moto skis

They are very very reliable. I spent all day in the garage welding up a new belly pan for another Moto ski spirit I picked up. Hopefully tommorow or friday i should be aquiring an Elan that i believe is to be in the 90's. I love these machines. I love them like guys on here love the ATC 70's.

I've got a 1971 Elan (the first year) that I actually won in a drawing from a Ski-Doo dealership. The machine has been reconditioned and is in decent shape considering its age.

With their toughness, reliablilty, and simplicity, Elans are highly desired up here in Alaska. Everywhere I've taken it, people are making offers to buy it.

I see EVERY shop in Newfoundland had a NL Buy&Sell poster or 3 on the wall, haha.

I traded a set of rear tires a couple weeks ago for an Elan 250 single.
Cleaning the carb and fitting the throttle cable right now and then I'm off to go ride it home.

I wish there was more snow too.

Be carefull guys these elans are very addictive,I also grew up with these go anywhere skidoos and thought it would be nice to get another after 30yrs and now I have a few of them. The 75 300ss model is the most sought after which was the fastest with a 294cc motor but also the heaviest. The white hood elans and motoski spirits are also rare. The most expensive part to replace is the tracks and can cost up to $475 for a new one. Happy elaning.

My old man had one a few seasons back. He bought to flatten down the trails behind my house. It was a blast, slow as molasses but fun. We payed $150 bought a carb kit for it. Took it too my uncles one day and his brother offered my old man $650. Needless to say he sold it. I might pick one up this season

I started sledding with Elans. My first sled was a 71 250E, then I had a 73 Elan SS with the tuned pipe, twin HR carbs and even had disc brakes. That little 250 twin with the tuned pipe sounded awesome and would do an honest 45mph on a good day. Someone had mentioned earlier about a vibration issue...not with the twins, definetly with the one lungers though...My twin was very smooth compared to any other elan I drove, my brother also had a 71 250 sans electric start. I should have never sold mine because it was in mint condition but I was young and wanted to go faster....A regret a still have to this day.
