The 87-89 had different A -arms and wont interchange with newer years.
I had a 89 Warrior and it was pretty reliable.
That thing was beat on before we got it. I rode it almost 2 years after that. The only problem I had was the rear shock blew and the lower ball joint broke.

The 87-89 had a back up pull start which was nice if your battery went dead.

The carbs and cables were different on the older models.
And the carb cable for the older models was really expensive vs. the newer years.
Like 60 bucks vs. 19 bucks....

You can buy 2001 and newer Warriors in awesome shape for $1300-$1800.

I wouldnt spend more than $1000 On a super clean 87.
They just dont have much resale value.

But if it is that clean and runs good, get it for a good price. A bargain price would be around $700 if it does not need anything.
I liked mine !

That is a nice one! Would make a good platform for a restoration! Warriors are usually a little on the ragged side for some reason. I guess most people just didnt take care of them! I had a 1987 model and the only problem I had was the carrier was held to the swingarm with 4 bolts (2 on top and 2 on bottom). I jumped mine alot and the carrier bolts would work loose and sometimes break in one ride from the constant jumping! Even with locktite on them! Then as the bolts would become slightly loose, it would elongate the holes in the swingarm! We finally cured the problem by drilling out the bolt holes to the next larger size. Yamaha corrected the problem in 89 or 90 I think by welding a hollow tube between the top 2 bolt holes and 1 hollow tube welded in between the 2 lower bolt holes. This in turn let them use one very long bolt up top and another long bolt on the bottom.

I think the 87 model is the best one to get. I wish I could lacate a clean red and black one.
