 Might be a silly question to most, but I don't have a great deal of experience on 4 strokes.

I have recently purchased a 86 200X and want to adjust the valves.

Where do you access the valve adjustment on this engine?

Thanks :?

it's on the top left hand side of the engine inside the black box. also, each mark on the adjusters is equal to 8mm.

Your valves should be adjusted to .003 inches or .08 milimeters. There are little valve covers for the intake and exhaust valves that are held on by 2, 10mm bolts. On the 350X valve adjustment is tricky, the 200X I'm assuming would be much easier. With mine I just leave the feeler guage in while I tighten down the nut that allows you to turn the screw to adjust your valves(I dont know that nut's name).

Based on the thread on .org, I think the 86/87 200x has dial a valves. check out this thread

86 is different than the earlier ones.

It is where Malibu Bandit described. There is only one access cover, and inside you have tabs with bolts going through slotted holes. Valves are adjusted by where in the slot the bolts are tightened. The slots have reference lines/marks on them.
