finally got my yfz!!!

well I havent been on here in a long time, ended up selling my 200x and waiting almost a entire year and a few days ago bought a 2006 yfz 450 from my cousin. Today took it out for bought 5 min in my yard and the pipe was getting red hot! here is what it has, full gytr exhaust, hot cams, aftermarket filter, quickshot, but right now is has a 178 main jet and it still is getting red. any ideas? I heard they all glow but I think this is glowing to hot? and today was really cold. like below zero. any help would be great thanks alot

That is normal on the 450 Yamahas. They all do it even with the stock headpipe. Weather bike or quad. My WR450, and my buddys yfz's all glow...

ok good, does yours get really red, mine gets really bright red all the way back to almost the clamp on the exhaust, I shut it down right when I seen it becuase I was worried bout it being to lean

I think that its lean all the 450 exhaust glow but it should only glow to the bend by the head maybe a little past.

My Honda 450 would glow red at night but right near the engine only.

Mine glows red all over the pipe and it is stock. You can really see it at night.

Should only glow to the bend and only at slow speeds/idle. Mine (450R) does not glow when your on the throttle for any period of time. Thats with a full pipe, hotcams stg 2, filter and HRC jetting.

Completely different engine. And all of the 5valve Yamahas glow. If it's not, i guarantee a poor running engine with a COAL plug..... In fact, the later model ones glow more since header wall is even thinner... Never seen a yamaha or my friends crf/trx engines glow at idle though, and we have lots. But, hold it at 4-5k... and the yami as awesome.

When I had my 450R I had my jeans catch on fire at least 5 times. I still have a scar from one of them. lol.

Just like BGM said, It should not glow off idle, don't crash trying to watch it though!

i have never seen a yfz that didn't glow,,, on my wifes 450 i wrapped it with headder wrap,, then built a short shield ,, now she can ride all day without a burn or pants on fire!!! here is a pict its kinda hard to see but its there,,,

hey sorry guys I will get pics up soon, hard to get time im a fulltime student for lineman and dont get home till 6 everynight. Yea I think it is jetted to lean on the bottom end, but its been way cold here, like -20 so havent been able to get going fast but boy did the pipe get red, its like bright red to orange but I know they all glow but dont think its supposed to be this much, I dont want to melt the piston. for jets right now are 50 pilot and 173 main. I will try to get pics of it tonight tho, thanks guys

you do want to bump up the jetting in cold weather on yfz's,those titainium valves DO NOT like lean conditions....
its true that they glow,even my lrd motor glowed at mid range,
but good luck with it they are good quads if you keep them maintained
