Hey guys, selling my snowmobile to buy a newer used dirtbike. There are several around for reasonable prices.
One of them is an 04 CR125 and the other is an 06 KX250. Both appear to be in good shape, the KX owner says his has about 20 hours on it total. The 04 is a trade in at the Honda dealership where I bought my quad. I remember it to be in nice shape.
I've heard nothing but good things of the aluminum framed CR125's handling. Its the power that I'm concerned with. I feel it may be a little weak once I get use to it.
The KX250 from what I've read is one of the better machines of 06 and the 250 power would be broader for trail riding.
Both machines would have +2 sprockets on the rear and studded for this winter.
I plan to trail ride, freeride in the local pits and now I'll be studding the tires to ride the frozen trails and ponds.
Both are for sale for $4500. There is also an 07 CR125 that another dealer has but I'm unsure of the price, over 5k for sure.

the 125 will be lighter, the 250 will have a much broader power curve.
i'd go with a 250, personally.

Think I'm trading my sled for an 04 CR125. GOnna ride it for a while, may sell it to buy a quad unless its an absolute blast.

Id go kx250 also, I've been a little too big on a 125 for some years now. In the woods and trails the 125 just doesnt have the power to pull me unless im playing with the clutch and revving it up

125's are fun and nimble... but 250's require way less maintenance and have a much more versitile powerband.. I would never buy a 125 unless it was for the purpose of racing in a specific class..

I'm light, I might weigh 140 with all my gear.
It will buzz me around just fine. I'll upgrade to a fourstroke 250 come spring if I get into the bike thing.

Well a 125 should be enough go for ya, but I can't comment on the 250 seeing I haven't driven one. There's a nice 07 cr125 in St.Johns that I was looking at. It was traded in at Alantic Recreation. I'm not sure about the financing but in cash it was $5300 tax included.

I'm 170 or so and my bro's 2000 CR125 felt crazy fast when I rode it this past summer. Then again it was my first time riding a dirtbike lol.

I think I'm trading for an 04 CR125 with about 10 hours on it. Waiting on some pics of it before I go ahead.
That 07 was for sale on the Lewishillbillies forum for $5200. Theres a clean 04 CR125 at Hondaone as well for $4500.

I was also into Hondaone and never pad much attention to it . I only realized the cr at Alantic Recreation because it was a Honda at A Yamaha dealer. Kinda stood out.lol

It may just be your location, but that sounds like an awful lot for either bike. I just bought a mint '06 YZ125 for 2200, and a '05 YZ250 for 1350. The economy has forced the sale of lots of dirt bikes, and it seems that everyone is giving them away.

I love 125's especially the CR's. I think 4500 for an 04 is too expensive. there is an 05 cr 125 on my CL now for 1300 and an 07 cr 125 for 2500. The 07' looks showroom too.

It is extremely high for either yes but it has everything to do with location. First being in Canada and secondly being an island province there really isn't a huge market for those type of machines.

Always wanted to try out an aluminum frame 125, just to see if they actually feel any lighter.

Unless your 170lbs and lighter, you'll get used to that 125 real fast and wish it were a 250cc.
Last 125 I rode was a nice 2006 CR125 a neighborhood kid has, and boy - that thing pulls!! But they still have flat spots where the 250 would just chug through it......
Suspension, handling and brakes were unbelievable. But not nearly enough power unless your riding style is WOT 80% of your ride time.

135lbs in gear. :P Yeah I know, eat something...I can pile down food and it never sticks.
Anyhow if I get tired of the peaky 125 it'll go up for sale and I'll look for a CR250R or a 250F.

Goes pretty good on the pipe but hasn't got the lowend for trail riding. I probably shouldn't have bought it. LOL
