not sure how this will run with a ATCR500, but the motor is VERY stout. like dead stop, start on the face of the dune in first and be able to upshift all the way to 4th if room allows kinda power. any way, thought the HP junkies might appreciate it. by far fastest thing I have ever ridden!

Looks like a very impressive machine from the suspension to the engine. Do you ride Little Sahara?

I like it...a lot.

I'm trying to picture it with a white frame and white plastics....

Whoa. Sweet for sure. Talk about a 2 stroke powerhouse!

I dig the color scheme! (go gators!):beer

is that a q pipe?? why not a lt500r, i noticed over on quadracerhq, some others have done this. i wonder why?nice conversion btw!
i see the "robert" porting on the jug, i guess that is his pipe too...

well the lt500r has the counterbalancer correct? but the other 500rs are much faster...

or am I blowin smoke.

all four yrs. zilla have the counter balancer 87-90.i think my 87 zilla weighs 390 lbs stock. i dont know what the 250r weights, but it has to be few pounds less than the 500

The Goat

should be 302 pounds if it has the 500r and it's located in a second gen trx chassis.... if memory serves correctly. lol. it usually does.

hmmm lets see if I can answer all these questions...

yes I have been to LS alot back in the day, but its been about 5 years since the last time I was there. plan to head out for the April 23-26 meet-up on here.. the pics and video are from the dunes near Kinder, Louisiana

definitely a powerhouse, but if it was Alma mater colors it would be red and black, Texas Tech Air Raid biatches!!

Yes its a Q pipe, his way old school hand coned pipes. Its an all out HRD 540cc, 42mm carb, RX piston/head/wrist pin/washer/gaskets, V2's with custom intake, trans gears back cut, etc. etc. etc. the motor has every trick in the book done to it.

it is counter-balanced. but as I said with all the mods I don't think there is a faster motor...definitely not a motor that could be considered "much faster"

this weighs about 310-315 pounds. and yes you will be sucking smoke, not blowing it. Ha!! ;)

it is a 3rd get Lt250r chassis, not a second gen TRX250r chassis.

My next 500 hybrid will be a similiar Q-Rx'd motor in a 88TRX frame, but will require ALOT of work... someday... :pics:

feel I've gone retarded being this bored at work today.

I thought there were only 2 gens of lt250's? There would be the 5spd ones, then the 6spd ones, 2 gens right? I'm a Zuki dummy so dont bash me too hard, lol.

Whats the basis for the conversion? 500 power in a lighter/smaller better handling chassis?

Sweet build bro, I was heavily considering doing this to my brothers 88TRX250r, but was reading a bunch of articles on a forum that is actually dedicated to the swap

http://www.trx500r.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4

And decided against it afterwards. The power increase would be huge and I had my hands on a Cr500 motor for $250. But figured I need to practice my welding a bit more before tempting somwething like that, LOL!
I haven't welded since I was in school, so I am a bit rusty to say the least

That pipe is freaking awsome! I don't know much about the LT's either, but that is a beautiful bike, congrats!

thats the beauty of the zilla motor. it is the ONLY counterbalanced 2 stroke 500, so does away with the vibration issues and etc of a dirt bike motor swap. and Robert AKA Doctor Q has been a zilla fan/tuner/R&D/racer/etc. since day one. so 20 years later he has his stuff together. when you do all the tricks, porting, tuning, fixing, the Hp is in the 75-85 range and its super reliable like a honda. he has seen what breaks and figured out how to fix it so it wont break in the first place. I could go on and on about this setup. It starts on the first kick nearly every time, never back fires/kicksback, it idles great, no lean surges or detonation.

Bottom line, very skeptical at first but now that I put my own thoughts and ideas aside and trusted his knowledge and made the plunge. its the shiz!

www.quadracerhq.com

and if that is not enough, then he has a godzilla motor setup: 630cc stroker, twin carb, custom cylinder, methanol fuel...

the LT250r has 3 generations. the 85-86 with non-PV motor, weighed only 290 pounds (less than the ATC250r!!), the 87-90 with PV motor, T seat, frame and chassis all new. aside from plastic, practically nothing from the 85-86 works on the later years. The 91-92 had a different rear suspension, more MX racing oriented, aside from that they were the same as the 87-90.

the advantage of the hybrid is 25% weight loss (400 pounds compared to 300) and better handling chassis. on the website, the requirements for the swap are well laid out, custom motor mounts can be purchased, and very minimal mods are required or there are guys that will do the frame mods for you if you send them your frame. Robert has a special exhaust setup just for the hybrids. they make it pretty damn easy!!

IMO, with all the time Doc Q has spent on the motor and chassis mods, the parts available for the motor swap, this is the easiest and probably fastest hybrid if you go all out. The CR motors are fast, but without the right exhaust, its not reaching full potential, and there is that vibration issue.... :Bounce

(if you couldnt tell, I really, really, really, really like this quad setup and have ZERO complaints, aside from sore arms from trying to hang on) :naughty:

Nice ride!

My brother in law has a mint 92 LT 250R, worked over with a CT jug,and works shocks and Aftermarket A-arms.
Beautiful 92 LT 250R....

He Restored a 88 LT 500 With a Trinity Jug.He loved it.Keepin it forever he says.
He is 6'11, 350 pounds.
So he needed that big of a machine.
He was going to do that same swap on the LT 250R, but decided against it, becuase he already had the LT 500,and didnt want to cut up the 250R chassis.

Guy is so big and strong, he can litteraly, put his feet down on the ground with the LT 250, pick it up with him on it and turn it 180 degrees...
He says "Who needs reverse" lol

He rode my Tri-Z once...Looked like an adult on a plastic big wheel....LOL

well tell your BIL about the quadracer site and maybe we can help him out. Trinity is crap, relatively speaking. Better than Duncan or stock, but thats about it. with the right parts, there is hardly any permanent frame mods for the hybrid swap. Plus a 250 frame can be found relatively easy if he doesnt want to mod the one he has now...

thanks for the positive comments yall :w00t:

Im 6-8, 300# FWIW :)

He knows about the site.
That is where he got the hybrid Idea.

He is having back problems now.Something about compressed vertabra.

So his riding days are getting limited. He decided just to leave the 250 stock.
He is probably going to sell it. Just keep the 500.
He is going to start driving jeeps in the trails, and keep the 500 for the ocasional ride.

That Trinty zilla runs pretty good.Good enough for him.

That CT Lt250R with a new stock sleeve, and FMF pipe was waisting a built 265 R in drag races..
All fairness, the R wasnt getting any traction.
