The wife and i decided to take a small vacation without the kids. Kind of a 2-3 day break before the new one is born. We were thinking about going to Vegas. The problem is, i know nothing of that place. I have heard not to stay on the wrong end of the strip, avoid certain parts etc.... I was looking at staying at NY/NY. Is this a good place? I would like to hear do's and donts, experiences, etc et c

I have been there three times, and have stayed at

-statosphere

-luck horseshoe

-Mirage

The Statosphere is at the wrong end of the strip in my opinion. If you look at a map, your sepearated from the rest of the strip by a number of blocks. You feel secluded up there. I will say check it out if you can, going up in the tower and checkin out a few roller coasters is a great time. Be careful what time you go up there, you could end up standing in line to get up top for a while!

Im all about the Mirage. Ive stayed there twice now, and would again, but probably wont so I can experience the rest of the strip. The Mirage is a GREAT hotel. AWESOME buffet, and great rooms. If you can go during the week, you will get a much better deal on prices. Another great thing about the Mirage, is your right in the middle of the strip.

If you like craps, the mirage is also nicely placed for that. The Casino Royale is directly across the street offering $3 craps. (and yes you can also have top shelf drinks for free) I was ordering them 2 at a time, just remember to tip your waitresses!

Next up, go to a show. I didnt see a show until my third trip. We saw Blue Man group and it was awesome. You say your bringin the kids, well this would be a child friendly show. I think the cheaper tickets are $75, or something like that. You dont have to worry about being in the back, because the auditorium they work in is pretty small to begin with. All shows there are jawdroping expensive!

Watch out for these guys. They click and clap their hands to get your attention and then shove these in your face:

Little ads for prostitutes.

Their not allowed to touch or talk to you.

The NYNY is a very nice place, Im sure you would have a good experience there. Their roller coaster is alright.

Make sure you check out some free stuff like the fountains in front of the Bilagio, the volcano in front of the mirage, and for the kids there a little pirate show in front of Treasure Island.

Its a fun place to explore. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. :beer

I am going to try not to bring the kids. My parents have been dying for the kids to stay with her. My poor wife needs a break bad and with another one on the way, it will be awhile before we have this oppurtunity again. We talked about going the cheapest route. Well i got on this site

http://www.lasvegas.com/

and it is so cheap. Us two for 3 night swith airfare is $600 to NY/NY. It is one if the highest price ones.

The Monte Carlo has the best (champagne brunch) buffet. Excellent choice after a long night of gambling.

Been there twice, stayed in the Bellagio last summer for a week which was really awesome but of course a bit pricey. Then stayed in Mandalay Bay for 10 days over Christmas, nice hotel, dissappointing buffet and too far from the centre of the strip. Agree with Keister about the buffet in Monte Carlo, its the best, reasonabley priced and very good quality. I love the casino in NY/NY, they have a brilliant Irish bar and plenty of choice for eating, also its quite central, I say go for it man, you'll love it!! And good luck on the tables
