I've been looking at selling my 200x and buying a 125 pinger. The cr's seem to be too expensive because they're either new or blown up, but the kx's, rm's, and yz's seem to be reasonable in price. I currently own a 2001 Xr200r that produces a measly 15-17hp (depending on source), so stepping up to a 2-smoke 30-33hp bike will be a change. In your honest opinion, which bike is the most reliable? Pulls the hardest? and has best suspension? The seat height is about 5 1/2 inches taller than the xr for all the 2-pingers, so since I sit almost flat-foot on the 200 what will be expected for the new bikes? Never ridden a 2 stroke before, but I have a steep learning curve :D Any reply is appreciated... :welcome:

Also, I'm looking at the rigs from 2000 on. I've read the bike's reviews on the net and they favor the yz125, which is good because (off topic) I've got an extremely friendly Yamaha dealer smack in the middle on my town...

For over rev and all out 125 power KTM...Best over spread of power with a good over rev YZ...Solid handeling good motor from the mid to top RM...I am not a huge fan of the Green machines...but that is the bike Rickey and James developed to a winning machine. I really liked the RM 2001 I rode for a summer as a play bike. It was fun to over ride the bike...meaning you needed to hold it on and flow more to retain speed. At times I felt faster on the 125 than the 250. I was to fat for the suspension but it was a bike that always brought a smile for ear to ear when trying to keep up and pass friends when riding. Pricing on the 125's is really good right now...Any one of them would be fine and fun to ride...shop it out for the steller deal, it's out there.

I owned every year YZ125 from 1999 to 2006, and it would be hard to beat the 2003. the 2006 is better because of suspension reasons, but that 03 was rock solid. I cant comment on the other brands, never had 'em. I rode an '04 rm and wans't too impressed with the power. The KTM always made the best power, but yamaha was close behind. The YZ was the benchmark for sure.
I still have my 2006, I love 125's I think they are the funnest bike on a MX track. and if you want a new one, Yamaha and KTM are your only choices the KTM is now a 144 big bore though.

Yeah I was looking at the '03's. Found one in my area $1000 in good condition.... to bad I don't have the cash.... good 2003-2005 and sometimes 2006's go for $1000-$1700 in great-perfect condition. I'll sell my xr200r and 3 wheeler and can buy a nice one, with some left-over cash. Thanks for the replies, it's helpful to hear from some experienced guys :beer

I really like my KX125's. My '96 is the perfect balance of speed and handling IMO. I will say that all of the KX's I've ridden('85, '88 and '96) are all top end, and they're all about the same as far as power, but the newer you get, the better they handle. BTW my brother picked up his '88 for $500 and it was in pretty good shape, so they're pretty reasonable as far as price. My '96 was $900.
