99 scrambler axle and carrier

i picked up a '99 scrambler 400 2wd that was in bad need of a chain and sprocket, as i was putting the new sprocket on i noticed the axle bearings were pretty loose (felt as if there werent any) so im betting the carrier is pretty chewed up...and if that isnt enough sombody had welded the axle nut for some reason. so my question is, what years of axle and carrier will bolt onto my swinger? also will a 500cc axle be the same? i assume that a 4x4 400 would be the same too?
